Itinerary

Day 1: Silk weaving & World's largest Shiva Temple

Stop At: Ekambareswarar Temple, Ekambaranathar Sannidhi Street, Kanchipuram 631502 India
We ride 75 Km from Chennai to Kanchipuram, which once was the capital of the medieval South Indian Kingdom of Pallavas. The Pallavas were instrumental in the transition from rock-cut architecture to stone temples. We visit Ekambareswarar and Kailasanathar temple of Pallava dynasty to appreciate these architectural wonders built in 600 AD.

Stop At: Kanchipuram India
Kanchipuram is renowned for its magnificent Silk Sarees. Silk Sarees are a cultural icon in South India. Ranging in length from 6-9 yards, these Sarees are worn by women during auspicious occasions like a wedding or a birthday. There are more than 5000 families who are into the business of silk weaving. The sarees are weaved from pure mulberry silk thread. We will visit one such Weaver and it will be a memorable experience.

Stop At: Arunachaleshwara Temple, Foothills of the Annamalai Hill, Thiruvannamalai 606601 India
We ride 120KM to Tiruvannamalai. We visit the world’s oldest Shiva temple. The origin of this temple goes back to antiquity. Chola Kings built the present structure in the 9th century. An interesting way to experience this temple is to circumambulate the 14 KM circular path around the Hill temple to achieve freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth!

Day 2: Phisolophers Cave & Gingee Fort

Stop At: Sri Ramana Ashram, Chengam Road M, Thiruvannamalai India
We will visit the ashram of the great philosopher Ramana Maharishi, This 19th century philosopher was renowned for his saintly life, for being fully realized, and for the powerful transmissions that often occurred to visitors in his presence. We will visit the meditation hall. A small trek takes us to the cave where Ramana Maharishi meditated for 17 years from 1899-1916. The cave is essentially an ashram in the shape of a perfect ‘OM’ located on the eastern slope of the famous Arunachala hill.

Stop At: Gingee Fort, Chidambaram, Villupuram District Thindivanam to Thiruvannamalai Road, 25 km, Gingee India
We ride 40Km to Gingee. Gingee Fort complex is on three hillocks: Krishnagiri to the north, Rajagiri to the west and Chandrayandurg to the southeast. The three hills together constitute a fort complex, each having a separate and self-contained citadel. The complex has a seven-storeyed Kalyana Mahal (marriage hall), granaries, prison cells, and a temple. We will climb one of the forts and the climb is expected to take 90 minutes up and 45-60 minutes to get down.

Day 3: Spirituality & French heritage in Pondicherry

Stop At: Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Rue de la Marine, Pondicherry India
he tour of Pondicherry begins with a visit to Aurobindo Ashram. Guests will get a brief experience of his life and times as well as his philosophy and revolutionary ideas.

A French heritage walk is organized through the heart of the city where one can see glimpses of exquisite French style of architecture.

We will visit the famous promenade and Gandhi Square in the evening.

Day 4: World heritage site of Mahabalipuram

We will explore the rock cut sculptures of Mahabalipuram

We reach the World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram. Panch Rathas, or the 5 chariots is our first destination. These are rock cut monolith temples structures dedicated to Draupadi and the 5 Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata.

We reach the World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram. Panch Rathas, or the 5 chariots is our first destination. These are rock cut monolith temples structures dedicated to Draupadi and the 5 Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata.

Stop At: Krishna's Butter Ball, E Raja St, Mahabalipuram 603104 India
The next halt is at Krishna’s Butterball, a curious sight of a 5 meters diameter ball shaped boulder which is perched precariously on a slope and seems to defy Newton’s laws of gravity!
Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Sea Shore Temple, Mahabalipuram India
The magnificent Shore temple beckons us. This 8th century structural temple is made of granite and served as a beacon for sea farers of the time.
