About this activity
The city Chennai is a fascinating amalgamation of culture, history, and modernity. With its ancient temples, golden sandy beaches on the Bay of Bengal and its aesthetic practice of local music and dance, the city holds a certain beauty and fascination for most travellers.

This tour intends to take you on a journey to experience the very best. Your first stop will be Fort St. George which is currently 350 years old with wide battlements that are a distinct reminder of the British Indian past. Today, the buildings in the fort are home to the Tamil Nadu State Government Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly. Within the fort complex, a number of other British buildings still survive, of which, St. Mary's Church is the most interesting. The museum of Fort St. George is also a fascinating tourist attraction for all its artefacts from the East India Company and the colonial past.

Next, your tour will take you to the renowned Kapaleeswarar Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple complex has a market which is traditional to most Indian temples, a tank for ritualistic cleaning and the residential home of the Bhramin who serves as a priest.

This package also has a walking tour. There are 2 walking tours to choose from in Chennai:
• Morning Walking Tour (this will be before city tour):You will start the tour from Mylapore, an ancient town in the heart of modern Chennai. It was at Mylapore that the city was born and gradually grew to be today’s Chennai. Your tour of Mylapore is essentially a walk that is garnished with a pinch of culture, a dash of tradition, a spot of history, a few sights, some tastes and lots of stories about the local life, of gods and demons, and of the birth of a city.
• Afternoon Walking Tour (this will be after city tour): Continue to explore the colonial Madras, a glimpse of which can be seen in the British architecture that survives today. This trail gives you a peek into colonial Madras, where Hindu gods sit under Muslim domes, where stained glass reflects South Indian roofs, and where majestic Greek columns stand next to sleek Art Deco edifices. As you look more closely at these structures, you will find stories of grand ambitions and unexpected revolutions, stories of determined idealists and impish traders. Each building is a time capsule which reveals the hopes and fears of its creators, as well as the history of this ever-vibrant city.
