Stop At: Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, Chingleput Division; M.A.S. Complex 46D/5 – VillakadiI Koil Street, Kanchipuram India

You will be picked up from your hotel in Chennai in the morning and driven to Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located at a distance of 50 miles from Chennai and the drive takes around an hour.

Upon reaching the sanctuary your guide will show you around the area. The sanctuary is dotted with several small lakes that make for a favorite feeding ground for birds. In the 18th century, the area was a hunting spot for the local landlords.

The sanctuary is well structured with paved paths and watchtowers and benches for bird watchers. You can take a close view of the birds from here.

You will be able to see thousands of birds coming from various countries. The migratory birds include Garganeys and Teals from Canada, Snake birds and Glossy Ibises from Sri Lanka, Grey Pelicans from Australia, Grey Herons and Open Billed Stork from Bangladesh, Painted Storks from Siberia, Spoonbills from Myanmar and the Spot-Billed Duck.
