Pass By: Wat Rong Khun, Lahaul-Spiti Pa O Don Chai Subdistrict, Chiang Rai 57000 Thailand
By the end of the 20th century, the original Wat Rong Khun was in a bad state of repair. Funds were not available for renovation. Chalermchai Kositpipat, a local artist from Chiang Rai, decided to completely rebuild the temple and fund the project with his own money. To date, Chalermchai has spent THB40 million of his own money on the project.
Stop At: Wat Rong Seur Ten (Blue Temple), 306, Moo 2 Rim Kok, Chiang Rai 57100 Thailand
This is probably the most unique and colourful temple you seen in Thailand so far. It is not a big and monumental temple, but a quieter and more peaceful one. And blue. Blue, blue, blue. Blue is the dominant colour here, making it different to the other Wats in Northern Thailand, adding the original note to it. So beautiful!
Duration: 40 minutes
Stop At: Baan Dam Museum, 414 Moo 13, Chiang Rai 57100 Thailand
Once you enter the Black House you will see an intact elephant skeleton, skulls of various creatures which cannot be fathomed at first sight in its raw bone form. Skins of bears, tigers, reptiles, cracked eggs, furniture made out of animal bones, various skulls and bones that are used to decorate the ornate buildings and many more carcasses of exotic animals.
