About this activity
Before the 20th century brought all sorts of modernizations to the city of Chiang Mai, a rich old kingdom stood on this mountainous province. If you look close enough, the sites and structures of this history can still be seen today. Lace up your hiking boots and join us as we explore one of Thailand’s original national parks and highest mountain: Doi Inthanon. Perfect for adventurers and culture enthusiasts alike, this tour will take you through stunning landscapes, remote villages, and incredible viewpoints.
We’ll board our transport and head 1 hour and 40 minutes out of Chiang Mai. Our first stop is at a Karen Tribe locale; there we will learn a bit about the tribespeople’s culture and way of life, as we explore their village of Sobhad.
Next we’ll start our hike into the forest with our trusted guide. Our first stop is Sirithan Waterfall. This stunning 50 meter cascade, fed by the Mae Klan River from Doi Inthanon’s peak, is perfectly hidden deep in the pine forest. After viewing this landscape from a scenic terrace, we will continue our hike to Wachirathan Waterfall.
One of the largest and the most beautiful of waterfalls in Thailand, the Wachirathan Waterfall will blow you away. Over 80 meters high, the power of this waterfall creates a refreshing mist that feeds the surrounding vegetation – giving you the most invigorating facial of your life! It is the perfect cool down before we enjoy our lunch at a Doi Inthanon restaurant.
After a delicious lunch in the forest, we’ll hike the Ang Ka Luang Nature Trail (366 meters, 30 min) thru moss covered pines to the scenic point at the summit. Doi Inthanon, standing more than 2,500 meters high, provides us with the perfect spot to take in the complex mountain landscapes of the park.
Finally, we reach the giant pagodas. Built for the Royal King and Queen, they are located at the highest point in Thailand, enriched with beautiful flower gardens and Alpen Roses. We will rest and appreciate the beauty of this sacred place before heading down the mountain to our last stop, the hill tribe market.
We will finish the day mingling with people of the Hmong Tribe in the upland market. After perusing their fine textiles and exotic foods, we will board our transport and make our way back to Chiang Mai. A day well spent!
