About this activity
Day 1: Chiang Mai – Ban Mae Sa Mai

Wat Doi Suthep and Doi Pui Hmong Village

Our guide and driver will meet you at the hotel at 0800. Drive to Doi Suthep Mountain. We will stop briefly at the shrine of Kruba Srivichai at the foot of the mountain. Visit Wat Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai’s most famous mountain. We continue to the Hmong village Doi Pui where we will meet our local Hmong guide. Here we will start our hike to another Hmong village Ban Mae Sa Mai in the Mae Sa Valley.

This hike will take about five to six hours including stops. It is a wonderful hike through forest and sometimes offering amazing views. The local Hmong guide will tell about the flora and about the history of opium cultivation on this mountain. At a scenic spot we will take a rest and have lunch. We will continue to Ban Mae Sa Mai. This village is the largest Hmong community in Northern Thailand.

After arrival there is time to settle down. You will stay next to a traditional Hmong family house. You help your hosts prepare dinner if you want. After dinner your guide will introduce you to Hmong culture.

Overnight in a village house.

Day 2: Ban Mae Sa Mai – Chiang Mai

The village will come to life early. After breakfast Return to your house and enjoy a local breakfast. After breakfast you can choose between two hikes around the village. You can either make a walk through the community forest of the village or hike to the vegetable gardens of the village. We will also visit the Royal Project, located on the edge of the village.

We will have a last lunch in the village before we will drive up to Mon Cham, a fantastic viewpoint. On the way we will stop at the Royal Project, located on the edge of the village.

Last stop today is the Elephant Poopoo Park. The Poopoopaper company produces recycled and odorless paper products from dung from elephants and other animals. They have great souvenirs here as well.

Drive back to Chiang Mai. We will drop you off at the hotel.
