About this activity
Day 1
Departure from Cluj in the morning, heading for Saxon Transylvania. Stop in a first village to meet the sheet metal Gypsies, exposing their stuff for sale on the side of the road. The family will welcome you into their house and offer you a demonstration of their skills. Lunch in a restaurant on the way.
Continue for Sighisoara Saxon medieval fortress (UNESCO heritage), one of the few of it's kind still inhabited in Europe. The Saxons were colonized in Transylvania beginning with the 12th century in order to defend the southeastern border of the Kingdom of Hungary. All their settlements were organisez around a central church, which, during war times, was used as a refuge for the local families. Still surrounded by 9 of the initial 14 defence towers, each one belonging to a local guild, the fortress of Sighisoara shelters not only beautiful Medieval architecture, but also medieval legends, such as the one connected to Vlad Tepes 'Dracula” birthplace. Head for the Szeklerland.
In the afternoon meet the ranger that will take you to the bear observatory. The observation will end the latest at night fall. Dinner and accommodation in a guesthouse.

Day 2
Early breakfast and departure towards a wild animal reserve to see some wild boars, deers, mouflons, elks. Still in the Szeklerland, you will admire some traditional Szekler wooden gates and meet some local craftsmen in Corund, a village famed throughout the country for the decorated pottery. Lunch on the way in a restaurant. On the way back to Cluj stop to visit Praid salt mine, the biggest salt mine in Transylvania, one of the very few still exploited. Back in Cluj in late afternoon.
