The Historical Village of Piódão is an architectural complex of rare beauty due to its natural setting, but also for its antiquity, unity and state of preservation of buildings, being nicknamed by many as "nativity village" given its configuration that spreads along the slope of the mountain with the houses in shale and slate and the windows and doors painted blue, in an amphitheatre.
It fits in the typology of the "Historical Villages".
It is known that the village of Piódão served as shelter to many who were intended to hide or for political reasons in times more severe, or for legal reasons. However, it was not just fugitives who sought her out. In the 19th century, the Cónégo Manuel Fernandes Nogueira founded a college that prepared students for the entrance to the seminary. Many boys from Beira Interior passed through the college between 1886 and 1906.
The history of the village is lost in the night of time. Few are the vestiges that allow reconstructing the history, nevertheless, the archaeological finds of Chãs d'Égua are an important testimony of the possible antiquity of the village.
But, we have found from a secure source, an older fact about the village and a few other tales and are eager to share all of these with you!

The village of Foz D'Égua belongs to the parish of Piódão and with it shares the mystical beauty of the Serra do Açor (Açor Mountain range).
Characterized by its mountainous, rural, countryside aspect, with the typical houses of shale and slate, surrounded by nature, almost in a pure state, it is rich in species of fauna and flora that here find their natural habitat.
In Foz D'Égua there is a river beach of great beauty, the meeting point of Piódão river with Chãs river, which runs towards the river Alvoco and whose course is blocked by a small dam creating a water mirror.
Also here there you find history and stories mix together and the as to why the place is called what is... there is a reason behind it and it's a really nice one!!
