As well as the celebrated Isenheim Altarpiece, the Musée Unterlinden is renowned for its remarkable collections encompassing Archaeology, Popular Arts and Traditions, Decorative Arts and Fine Art (from Medieval to Modern Art).
Names such as Picasso, Monet, Renoir, Dubuffet, Soulages, Bonnard and De Staël feature alongside German Renaissance masters like Grünewald, Lucas Cranach the Elder and Hans Holbein the Elder.
An exceptional setting
The 2016 extension of the Musée Unterlinden was entrusted to the highly renowned Swiss architectural practice Herzog & de Meuron, which was awarded the “Pritzker Architecture Prize” (the architectural equivalent of the Nobel Prize) in 2001, and has been responsible for creations such as the National Stadium in Beijing, the Tate Modern in London, the Schaulager in Basel and the VitraHaus in Weil-am-Rhein.
