Day 1: Negombo - Trincomalee

Stop At: Koneswaram Temple, Trincomalee Sri Lanka
Koneswaram temple sits high above the bay, a classical-medieval complex in the Eastern Province city of Trincomalee. The site is a religious pilgrim centre, and is one of the five “Pancha Ishwarams” (abodes of Shiva) that were built in coastal regions of Sri Lanka to honor the supreme god of Hinduism. According to legend, a Hindu Prince sailed to Sri Lanka to erect a temple to Shiva on Swami Rock, after he learnt from the Puranas that it was a fragment of the holy Mount Meru. The temple became popularly known as Koneswaram Temple Trincomalee.

Stop At: Pigeon Island National Park, Public Beach Road, Nilaveli 31010 Sri Lanka
Pigeon Island is located around 1 km away from the Nilaveli beach. This is consists of two islands, one is small and other one is larger in size. This is one of the best places to see corals. This island got it's name because of the Rock Pigeons live over there. In year 2003 Pigeon island was designated as a nation park in Sri Lanka. earlier it was a sanctuary. This island was used by British army as a place for shooting practice in early world war time. As a result of being located in Nilaweli a tourism paradise, tourists who visit Nilaveli beach never forget to take a look at Pigeon Islands. Perhaps you can go for snorkeling at the pigeon island too. In fact, it will take you to a vivid world of fish and coral. Today the islands have been identified as a breeding place of the pigeons, therefore, the zone is administrated and conserved by the Sri Lankan navy and the department of wildlife conservations. Consequently, you will see green turtles, blacktip reef sharks, olive ridleys and hawksbill turtles swimming over the coral reefs.

Stop At: Nilaveli Beach, Nilaveli Sri Lanka
Nilaveli beach is one of the finest beaches in Sri lanka, the pearly sands, the breath-taking coastline this is a tangible proof of serenity in our island. It is so unique that the feeling you experience when you see it, is unique itself. It certainly has that feeling of paradise-island remoteness, with plenty of bending palms swaying over the golden sand. One can really connect with nature at this beach at an intense level. This is a place where most people come to take a break from the hectic lives and rejuvenate.

Day 2: Trincomalee - Negombo

Stop At: Trincomalee War Cemetery, Nilaveli Road, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
The Trincomalee War Cemetery is built in honour of the soldiers who died during the period of World War II. Trinco sea port was formerly a naval base and during the war it came under attack by the Japanese. Following the incident, a British war ship in the harbour got destroyed killing 368 soldiers and injuring many. It is believed that the bodies of those who died and some of the corpses which could not be taken back to Britain were buried here. In addition the cemetery has the graves of Lankan soldiers who died during the phase of the World War II.

Stop At: Fort Frederick, Trincomalee Town, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
Fort Fredrick is a fort built by Portuguese at Trincomalee, Sri Lanka in 1624. It was built from the debris of the Hindu temple – Koneswaram temple (Temple of a Thousand Pillars) that was destroyed by the Portuguese. This was captured by a Dutch fleet under Admiral Westerwold in 1639. Not until 1665 was a new fort built here by the Dutch defend against the advancements of the British and the French. In 1672, the year when the Dutch Republic was attacked by France, Britain, and two German states, the French captured Trincomalee and later they occupied Batticaloa. However soon the French were forced to leave. Trincomalee was important for its large all-season secure harbor. In late 18th century Trincomalee traded hands once more with the French capturing it again and later handing back to the Dutch East India Company (VOC) at the Peace of Paris in 1784. In 1795 it was taken over by the British, and remained a British garrison till 1948. Coastal artillery guns were added during the two World Wars.

Stop At: Marble Beach, Kinniya Road, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
It could best be described as serenity at its utmost. The stretch of sand, running alongside the light blue ocean, seems to go on endlessly. To many, the allure of Marble Beach lies in its untouched, pristine beauty. A dip in the sea or a stroll on the beach here will soothe your senses. For the greater part of the year, barring the waters at Marble Beach remain distinctively calm and as clear as glass. The sight of the light blue, placid sea would please anyone’s eyes while the absolute purity of the environment is the speciality of Marble Beach. The calm waters that recede in a shallow gradient towards the deep allow an adventurer to wade into the waters for a reasonable distance while submerging only a part of the body. With the distant view of Rock Island breaking the horizon and adding colour to the scene, swimming in the water and lying on the sand all through the day can make time fly by in a very pleasant manner.
