Day 1: Negombo - Sigiriya

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Main Road, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Sigiriya rock fortress is an UNESCO World Heritage site and is known by locals as the 'Lion's rock" which was built by King Kashyapa. It is surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens and reservoirs, Sigiriya is steeped in history. From the 5th century BC, the fortress was used as a rock shelter mountain monastery, with caves prepared and donated by devotees to the Buddhist Sangha. Sigiriya is a half day tour and generally best visited during the early morning or the late afternoon, when the sun is at its least fierce.

Stop At: Dambulla Cave Temple, Jaffna Hwy, Habarana 50150 Sri Lanka
The Dambulla Cave Temple is located 24 km (30 min) from Sigiriya in central Sri Lanka. It was built in about 80BC and is the largest and best preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka. Inside are 153 Buddha statues in various reposes, three statues of ancient kings, and four other statues including those of Vishnu and Ganesh. The ceiling and walls have been repainted over the centuries contain a juxtapose of imagery including those of royal life.

Day 2: Sigiriya - Kandy

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy and is believed to be the most important Buddhist shrine in Sri Lanka. The temple houses the sacred tooth of the Buddha, which was taken from his remains after his cremation in India and smuggled to Sri Lanka, where it eventually ended up in Kandy. Both Kandy and the temple are now listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Road, Peradeniya 20400 Sri Lanka
Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya are best known for the variety of flora, including orchids, tropical woody plants and even spice plants that have been cultivated, hailing from all parts of the world, making it one of the more diverse botanical gardens in the country. Thus making it perfect for the horticultural enthusiast to delve into. In addition to being a horticultural paradise, the gardens are well known, for being a place of tranquility and solitude, where many a weary travelers can come and bask in the fresh air and fragrances of blossoming flowers. Boasting of around 4000 species of flora, the gardens prove to be one of the premier venues that showcase the best of horticulture in Sri Lanka.

Day 3: Most beautiful train ride from Kandy to Ella

Stop At: Demodara Nine Arch Bridge, Gotuwala, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
Demodara Nine Arch Bridge stands as a marvel of the region's colonial-era engineering. Completed in 1921, the bridge features nine successive arched spans stretching 91.5 m (300 ft) across a small valley. Standing at a height of 24 m (80 ft), the structure features no steel or metal in its construction--only bricks, cement, and rocks. You can make your way to the bridge from the nearby town of Ella via a jungle trail, at the end of which you'll have a clear view of this landmark structure. Alternatively, ride the train between the two stations on either side of the bridge for fine views.

Stop At: Ravana Ella Falls, Ella-Wellawaya Road, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
The waters of the Ravana Falls surrounded by lush green valleys, makes it an excellent spot for sightseeing and nature photography in Ella. Local legend has it that Sita was held in captivity in caves behind the Ravana Falls for some time. The Ravana Falls are located in the Ella Gap.
