03 Nights Culinary, Cultural and Adventure Package in Kandy

Itinerary

Day 1: Colombo - Kandy

Stop At: Kandy City Center, Kand, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
• Pick up from Colombo hotel and transfer to Kandy – Approximately 3hours drive.
• Upon arrival in Kandy, our lady guide will receive you at Kandy railway station. After a refreshing king coconut drink, she will then take you a for a guided walk in the historical town of Kandy followed by a visit to Temple of Tooth to witness centuries-old rituals. During the walk in Kandy, she will share some interesting stories about Kandyan history and culture which includes the Kandyan dynasty and information about some interesting monuments and buildings before proceeding to her homestay in a TukTuk.

Day 2: Kandy

Stop At: Kandy View Point, Rajapihilla Mawatha, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
After a home cooked breakfast, the gourmet adventure begins at the Kandy Market were shopping for fresh veggies, fish, meat or poultry is done in traditional style. Stroll through the conventional ‘Pola’ or market place where a wide variety of vegetables, green leaves, fruits, fresh herbs and spices are appealingly laid out in colourful rows. After buying everything needed for a truly wholesome meal, head for the homestay. Get yourself involved to cook a typical Sri Lankan meal using the fresh and wholesome produce purchased at the market. Get involved in the fun process of cutting, chopping of the veggies, grinding of the herbs, pounding of the spices and scraping of fresh coconut. Watch closely how each dish is prepared using just the right amount of spices and herbs so as to preserve the nutrition and goodness. Interestingly the meal is prepared in a typical outdoor tabletop with the birds, squirrels and even the monkey watching from not too far away. (Take care of the food or you will find the cute squirrels and the cheeky monkeys carrying it all away.)

Observe how the coconut milk is extracted and poured over the curries that are being cooked in terracotta clay pots on a crackling wood hearth. Learn some interesting facts and even some secret tips about traditional Sri Lankan cooking. With the mouthwatering aromas wafting from the kitchen, you’re probably hungry already. Enjoy a delicious Sri Lankan meal seated out on the open-to- nature dining area.

Take a rest in the verandah chatting with the host family or you may even take a brief nap before the next culinary experience.

In the evening set out to a traditional local bakery to see how pieces of bread and buns are made in a local way. You may even make your own buns.

Day 3: Knuckles Mountain Range

Stop At: Knuckles Conservation Forest, Sri Lanka
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the homestay cooked by the host prior to being picked up by a village guide from the village to take you for a guided walk in the foothills of Knuckles Mountains. This walk will bring you real authentic sights of a village untouched by mass tourism growth or development. The walk goes through Pine forests, Tea estates, gushing streams, jungle patches, waterfalls, terraced rice fields and domestic spice fields. So you will be able to see working spice, paddy and tea fields, interact with real locals, taste home cooked food, and see how animals are used for farming work. A home-cooked meal will be served as your lunch complemented with fresh home-grown fruits such as Mangoes and Bananas.

Upon arrival at the homestay after the walk, have some time relaxing in your room. We are still not finished as yet another culinary adventure is about to happen during the dinner. Our host will take you to a village Pan Hopper Shop operated by a lady from the village for her family’s livelihood where you would be able to join with her to make Pan Hoppers and eat those you just made at the hopper shop for dinner.

Day 4: Kandy - Colombo

Stop At: Colombo Fort, Galle Buck, Colombo Sri Lanka
• Enjoy a Sri Lankan rice and curry lunch
• Transfer back to Colombo – Approximately 3 hours drive

Now comes the most difficult part according to the clients who stayed with us. Bid farewell to the local family at the homestay after breakfast and depart to your next destination.
