Day 1: The beach town - Bentota
Stop At: Hikkaduwa Beach, Hikkaduwa 80240 Sri Lanka
Hikkaduwa’s brilliant coral reef and bountiful underwater ecosystem makes it one of the best locations in the country for snorkeling excursions.
Hikkaduwa offers excellent snorkeling opportunities very close to the shore. Just 200m offshore, in shallow waters no more than 4m deep, a reef protects an expanse of brilliant coral which is populated by vividly colorful reef fish.
It is ideal fun and adventure-filled activity for professionals and amateurs alike. You can come and learn snorkeling if you are a beginner while experienced snorkelers can also enjoy Sri Lanka’s tropical waters and its colorful reefs and fish.
There are around 60 species of hard coral along with over 170 species of tropical reef fish in the fringing reef at Hikkaduwa National Park.

Stop At: Galle Fort, Church Street, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka
Galle is a walled city surrounded by thick ramparts. These were built by the Dutch merchants that controlled the city in the 17th century. The ramparts are so thick that you can walk along them – start at one end and finish at the other. Look towards the ocean, see the old prison between the ramparts and the waves, check out the lighthouse and the clock tower and watch the schoolboys during cricket practice.
Inside the Galle Fort is where you can walk along the little streets and do some shopping. In between the boutique hotels and old houses, there are plenty of little shops and boutiques where you can buy plenty of local souvenirs and goods. The most notable of goods that can be found in the little Galle Fort shops are Sri Lankan gems and jewelry. You can also find handwoven sarongs and home linen.

Stop At: Unawatuna Beach, Unawatuna Sri Lanka
Unawatuna, the beach town in Galle, has pretty good waves for surfing. They aren’t particularly big, but they are perfect for some fun in the ocean. They are also great for new surfers, especially beginners. Get in touch with Surf South Sri Lanka to grab some lessons if you still haven’t mastered the art of standing on a board! They also rent boards for travelling surfers that don’t have one.
There are plenty of restaurants and relaxing spots along the beach in Unawatuna. Have a dip, walk along the shore, drink some king coconuts, eat some seafood, sip on a beer and simply relax. Unawatuna is perfect for families as well, if you are looking for a kid-friendly beach in Sri Lanka.

Day 2: Along with the down south - Bentota
Stop At: Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project, 13A Galle Road, Kosgoda 80570 Sri Lanka
Turn down a small track on the A2 at the Km72/73 post to find this operation, located in a quiet spot right on a pristine beach. Look for the 50-year-old turtle and the blind albino turtle, both of which have miraculously survived both humans (nets) and nature (tsunami). Arrive at 6pm and you can help release the three-day-old hatchlings into the ocean.

You cruise in canopies, outboard motors powered boats, en route take in the view of a 200 year old temple and watch the locals cultivating cinnamon. You may also see traditional fishing techniques in action and can view demonstrations of coir manufacture and rope making. You can also see 46 species of birds reside in the area including 14 aquatic varieties. You will also spot huge water lilies and colorful butterflies.

Day 3: Enjoy the urban life in Colombo
Stop At: Gangaramaya Temple, 61 Sri Jinarathana Rd, Colombo 00200, Sri Lanka
Run by one of Sri Lanka’s more politically adept monks, Galboda Gnanissara Thera, this bustling temple complex has a library, a museum and an extraordinarily eclectic array of bejeweled and gilded gifts presented by devotees and well-wishers over the years (plus one lonely and chained temple elephant named Ganga). Gangaramaya is the focus of the Navam Perahera on the February poya (full moon) day each year. This is the center for the most extravagant Vesak celebrations in Colombo.

Stop At: Colombo National Museum, Albert Crescent, Colombo Sri Lanka
A large 9th-century stone Buddha greets you with an enigmatic smile as you enter Sri Lanka’s premier cultural institution, which gets better (in small increments) each year. In galleries dating back as far as 1877, you’ll encounter all manner of art, carvings and statuary from Sri Lanka’s ancient past, as well as swords, guns and other paraphernalia from the colonial period. There are 19th-century reproductions of English paintings of Sri Lanka and a collection of antique demon masks.

On the relatively clean waters of Lake Battaramulla, this modern park has a children's play area as well as food vendors. It's a relaxing place to spend an evening strolling with families away from Colombo's urban jungle. Recently artists have been adding some mind-blowing 3D artworks that both delight and confound.

A perfect example of how quickly Colombo is changing what was an industrial canal has been reborn as a waterfront district with simple cafes, food vendors, shops, and chairs under umbrellas for relaxing. Local couples stroll the wooden boardwalks, holding hands and pausing for simple pleasures.
