Sigiriya and Dambulla Day Excursion from Colombo Private Tour

After starting your tour at 05:00AM from your hotel in Colombo, you will get to Sigiriya by 10:00AM. Your destination in the city will be the Sigiriya Rock, whose name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters (660 feet) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kasyapa to be his new capital.
You will be able to view the beautiful architecture of the palace, as well as look at numerous paintings. It is home to the world's most acclaimed cave complex of magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings of vivid colors and shapes. Constructed and painted from around the 2nd Century B.C. (the Anuradhapura era), it continued up to the Kandyan era of the 18th Century. Sinhalese people refer to it as 'Dambulu Gala' (Dambulla Rock), with the temple itself referred to as the 'Rangiri Dambulu Viharaya' (Golden Rock Dambulla Temple). Following this exquisite visit, you will return to your hotel in Colombo, completing your tour.
