About this activity
The tour begins with a call to Killarney the number 1 tourist destination for 2014 in Ireland, famous for its Cathedrals and of course the ‘Country Park’. For 250 years Killarney has been a key tourist destination and they certainly don’t disappoint visitors! Heading out on our peninsula drive our first stop being ‘Inch beach’ one of the longest beaches in Ireland and maybe here you could even dip your feet in the Atlantic Ocean if you dare! Inch is home to many a movie set including ‘Playboy of The Western World’ and ‘Ryan’s Daughter’.

Leaving Inch we carry on with our coastal drive out through the ‘gaeltacht’ where our native language is spoken until we come to ‘Dingle’ home to Fungi the Dolphin. Fungi was first spotted in Dingle Bay in the 1980’s and has made it his home ever since. Boats go out to visit him on an hourly basis and Dingle is well known for the friendly locals and it’s a colourful town with a very busy harbour voted the third best place to visit in Ireland in 2014.

Out along the rugged coastline we take ‘The Slea Head Drive’, elevated approximately 100 metres above the ocean, the Atlantic on the left, mountains to the right and looking out at ‘The Skelligs’, ‘The Blaskets’ and ‘Dead Man’s Island’ it is truly picturesque. We will see the beehive huts which the skellig monks lived in dating back 2000 BC, we will also see famine houses and get a taste of how people lived through these harsh times in Irish history. Also on this route we will see where the movie of ‘Far and Away’ was filmed and it was here Tom Cruise famously met Nicole Kidman, we can stop at the ‘fertility stone’ and get to see ‘The Three Sisters Peaks’ and ‘Mount Brandon’ which is the second tallest mountain in Ireland. Following all that fresh air we head back to Dingle for some lunch and maybe a pint, always a few stories and a many laughs along the way.
