Cuneo, situated in the southern Piedmont, not far from the Alps and the French border, takes its name from its wedge shape and it's surrounded by two rivers: the Gesso and the Stura. Until the nineteenth century the town was surrounded walls; after Napoleon's victory the walls demolished and the new part of the city developed.

You will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful facades of the elegant buildings in Via Roma and walk through Piazza Galimberti. This square is named after Tancredi "Duccio" Galimberti, lawyer and anti-fascist, who gave a speech from the balcony of his house on July 26, 1943 to incite the population to rebel against the Nazi-fascist invasion.

Later you can take a short break at the Arione bar, where Hemingway stopped to enjoy the famous meringues and the typical Cuneo pralines, made of a meringue wafer flavored with rum and covered with chocolate.
