Accommodation pick-up at 8:00 am to start off our day. We will travel out of Cuzco towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas and make our first stop at the village of Corao where we will visit a local artisan marketplace. Enjoy 30 minutes of free time to wander around buying handmade souvenirs for family and friends. Enjoy the scenic viewpoints along the panoramic highway that takes us over the mountains into the picturesque Urubamba river valley. Upon arrival to the ancient Inca town of Pisac, our guide will explain the unique architecture of this archaeological site and its magical vibes. Take about 45 minutes to explore the site and shop around in the local marketplace.

For lunch, we will continue to Urubamba and make our lunch break here for a taste of Peru’s finest traditional cuisine. After our break, the van will take us to Ollantaytambo, another mysterious archaeological site built into the steep mountainside. You will spend 45 minutes there, which will give you plenty of time to climb the steep steps of these ancient Inca ruins and contemplate life as you look out upon the valley. Then walk over to the train station, located a short 10-minutes on foot downhill from the archaeological site, to board the train heading for Aguas Calientes (approx. 2 hours). Upon arrival you will be met by a local guide who will transfer you to your accommodation and give you indications for the following day in Machu Picchu. Wander through the quaint town of Aguas Calientes at your leisure.

Our family really enjoyed this tour. Obviously Machu Picchu was the the primary reason we travelled to Cusco, but we also wanted to see some of the other ruins and experience life in the area. We had some scheduling difficulties with our trip which were outside the control of the tour company, however they did a great job getting all of our tickets and guide arranged for us. Due to the scheduling issue, our train departure time from Ollantaytambo was pretty early in the day. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to stop in any of the towns mentioned in the description for this tour on the way up there. We were picked up early by van from our hotel and were driven to Ollantaytambo where we did have about an hour to explore. The train was great and we had most of the afternoon to wander around Aguas Calientes. Day 2 we were up early and met with our guide who helped us through the process of getting to Machu Picchu and provided a fantastic tour of the site. We explored on our own for a bit and made our way back down. The reason we give this tour a 4 instead of a 5 was the transportation provided to and from our hotel. Both drivers who picked us up from the train in Ollantaytambo and originally from our hotel did not speak english. We would have liked to hear about the area on the drive up and on the way back the driver proceeded to take us back to the tour company office instead of our hotel. Unable to explain where our hotel was, we instead just exited the car and walked back to the hotel from the office.
