4-Day: Lares Trek to Machu Picchu

Day 1: Cusco-Huaran-Cancha Cancha

Depart Cusco early in the morning by private van for travel to Huaran Creek. From here, we ascend an original Inca trail up the side of a small, gradually narrowing valley. Along the way, enjoy a variety of lovely native flora and fauna. After an approximately 3 hour hike, arrive in the community of Cancha Cancha (4 000m), where we have the opportunity to sample local food and have experience traditional Andean life before settling down for the night.

Day 2: Cancha Cancha-Quiswarani

After breakfast we begin the slow climb to Accopata, an extension of the Cancha Cancha village, where llama and alpaca shepherds live in typical stone and ichu (straw) roof huts. From there, we begin a steeper ascent towards Pachacutec Pass (4 697 m). Stop at the pass to rest and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, along with the beautiful lakes of Azulcocha and Suerococha. Next, follow a gently descending trail, taking in the stunning peaks of Colque Cruz, Pitusiray, Sawasiray, Sirihuani and Chicon. We hike along Collaycocha Lake before arriving at a lovely waterfall near the community of Quiswarani (3902 m), where we will set up camp and spend time with children and local weavers.

Day 3: Quiswarani-Lares-Aguas Calientes
 (B,L,D)

The morning begins with a leisurely downhill walk, leading to the colonial town of Lares. The trail follows the river valley downhill for about 2 hours to the town (3100m). Here we spend the remainder of the morning relaxing and enjoying the town’s renowned hot springs. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a soak in open air thermal hot springs and enjoy lunch, before departure for the town of Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival we`ll explore this original Inca town before departing for Aguas Calientes by train for a celebratory dinner and overnight in a comfortable 3-star hotel.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes-Machu Picchu-Cusco
After an early breakfast, we will take a short bus ride to magnificent Machu Picchu! Start with a 2.5-3 hour tour of the ruins with your guide, then will be free to explore on your own. In the late afternoon, catch our return train for Cusco.

You will be met at the station by our driver for transfer to your Cusco hotel.
