Itinerary

Day 1: CUSCO - PITUMARCA – VINICUNCA - RAINBOW MOUNTAIN - PITUMARCA – OCONGATE | INC: B/L

Stop At: Cerro Colorado Vinicunca, Cusco, Cusco Region
Pick up at 4.00 a.m. From where we will make a trip of approximately two hours to the southeast of the city of Cusco until arriving at the town of Pitumarca where we can have breakfast. After breakfast we will continue our trip for 1 hour to reach the peasant community of Vinicunca which is located at 4722 m.s.n.m. from this point we will start our walk until we reach the Mountain of Colors at 5030 m.s.n.m. where we will have time to enjoy incredible views of the valleys and the snowy Ausangate, the highest mountain in the Cuzco region and is part of the Vilcanota mountain range.
After relaxing in this great place we will take the way back to Pitumarca to enjoy a buffet lunch. After our lunch we will start the trip that will take us to our hotel in the Ocongate district where we will spend the night in Ausangate.

Day 2: OCONGATE – MAHUAYANI – SANTUARIO | INC: B/L/D

Stop At: Ausangate, Cusco, Cusco Region
Breakfast at Hotel.
Morning: We leave our hotel in Ocongate through the Interoceanic Highway Section II where you can see the Vilcanota mountain range and the Ausangate mountain, an hour later we will arrive at the Mahuayani district. Once arrived in Mahuayani, this small town at the foot of the road, serves as a place of concentration for thousands of pilgrims during the party. Here also begins the pilgrimage of the nine miles of bridle path, which must be traveled to reach the epicenter of the celebrations.
The sanctuary of the Lord of Qoyllorrit'i, located in an impressive place, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Slowly it will be the walk along an uphill path along which we will find 14 crosses that are venerated on the way, the last one is already in the Sanctuary.
Upon arrival, we will set up our camp and enjoy free time in the afternoon. The presentation of the activities in the Sanctuary is impressive, as well as the number of pilgrims who attend this festival year after year. At night, you can attend the Mass in the Sanctuary, with two ceremonies, one at 6:00 p.m. and the other at 8:00 p.m. Camp in the Sanctuary.

Day 3: SANTUARIO – SINANCARA / QOLQUEPUNKU | INC: B/L/D

Stop At: Ausangate, Cusco, Cusco Region
This day will be appreciated celebrations and religious syncretism between the Catholic religion and the Andean religion. For people who want to start a walk to the snowy Sinanqara or Qolquepunku.

Day 4: SINACCARA-YANACOCHA (Main day of the holiday) | INC: B/L

Stop At: Ausangate, Cusco, Cusco Region
After an early awakening, those who wish will be able to go up to the snowy mountain to receive hundreds of ukukus that descend bustlingly from the glacier where they spent the night as a sign of devotion. Their flags and multicolored costumes begin to shine brightly, reflecting the first rays of the sun. Observing the deepest meanings of this extraordinary superposition of Andean ancestral cult and intense Catholic faith.
Until a few years the ukukus were lowering large blocks of ice from the snow on their backs. Now aware of the global warming and the dramatic retreat of the glaciers, only a few tiny bottles come down symbolizing this act.
After breakfast, the preparation of the teams will begin. After the festival activities, walk back to Mahuayani to the town of Mahuayani where our mobility awaits us and will take us to the Ocongate district where we will spend the night in Ausangate Lodge.
Optional: Night walk where at dawn we will meet dancers and pilgrims to wait for sunrise. D. A. Care and logistical support in the walk.

Day 5: TAYANKANI-CUSCO | INC: B

Stop At: Centro Historico De Cusco, Cusco, Cusco Region
Quick breakfast in the early morning, transfer the area of Intillocsina near the Tayankani district to meet the dancers and pilgrims who walked all night carrying their crosses and symbols of faith to reach this area to wait for sunrise.
After seeing the sunrise and dismissing the sanctuary of the Lord of Qoyllorrit'i until next year, the Andean nations dance until you reach the village of Tayankani where the pilgrimage ends.
Around noon we will return to the city of Cusco.

  • Drink bottle water, as much as you can, even if you are not thirsty
  • Maybe we will not have a shower for several days
  • Travelers should have a strong physical fitness level
  • The tents are for two people, so if you are a single traveler, the most likely is to share the tent with another traveler
