Day 1: Cusco

Day 2: Offering to Pachamama
Stop At: Plaza de Armas, Cusco, Cusco Region
You’ll have the morning free to explore the stunning streets of Cusco. Visit the markets, wander the city’s cobblestone streets, or enjoy a locally grown coffee while sitting on an intricately carved colonial balcony. In the afternoon, we will show our appreciation and respect for the natural world with a traditional Andean Offering to the Earth Mother (Pachamama) ministered by an authentic Q’ero-community shaman. This is the perfect way to understand Inti Raymi and its veneration of the natural world.

Day 3: Sacred Valley, Aguas Calientes
Stop At: Hot Springs (Aguas Calientes), Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Cusco Region
We’ll visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, travelling through picturesque canyons, stopping at a lookout high above the village of Taray to see the length of the Valley, and finally reaching the market town of Pisac. Here you can wander through the endless artisan stalls, visit the local bakery with its huge stone oven, and meet the town’s interesting inhabitants. Next, we will visit the ruins of Pisac, a spectacular Inca site located along the length of a ridgeline high above the village of the same name. Here, we will learn about the Intiwatana (Sun Temple) and its religious significance. We’ll next follow the sacred Vilcanota River to the tranquil town of Urubamba, where a traditional buffet lunch awaits us. Finally, we’ll depart for the well preserved and still-functioning Inca town of Ollantaytambo and its fortress. We end by taking an afternoon train* to the town of Aguas Calientes for the evening.
*Note that train schedules are based on availability, and you may be required to leave the tour of Ollantaytambo a bit early or to wait in town for an evening train.

Day 4: Machu Picchu / Cusco
Stop At: Machu Picchu
Wake up to verdant hills and the song of birds as you prepare for your visit to Machu Picchu, the Peruvian Wonder of the World. You’ll learn about the Inca culture as you are guided through the complex’s most important sites. Enjoy the rest of your day revisiting your favorite places, meditating, or even returning to town to for a dip in the hot springs. We return to Cusco by train this evening.

Day 5: Inti Raymi / Cusco
Stop At: Sacsayhuaman, Cusco, Cusco Region
Every year the Inca would celebrate the winter solstice in honor of their most venerated God, the Sun (Inti). We’ll follow the wild celebrations and dancing as they move from the Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun), the Plaza de Armas, and finally on to the Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman. All along, you’ll have the assistance of a guide to explain the intricacies of the ceremony.
