About this activity
Day 1: Cusco to Tinqui, Trek to Upis
Arrive at the village of Tinqui (3,800m) after a 3-hour morning drive, and prepare to begin your trek. You'll then head towards the first campsite of Upis (4,400m). The first day is a gentle beginning, passing along some hilly grasslands. Once arriving in Upis, you are rewarded with views of the Ausangate glaciers rising high above the campsite.
Day 2: Upis to Jatun Cupacocha
Today is slightly more hardwork. From the campsite, climbing directly through the Arapa pass (4,800m) you'll reach the Uchuy Pucacocha, this is one of several stunning mountain lakes in the area. Continuing onwards to Jatun Pucacocha, where camp is setup along its along its shores.
Day 3: Jatun Cupachoca to Ausangate Base Camp
Crossing two different passes today, the steady ascents will help you along the way. The Apuchata pass (4,900m) & followed by the descent to a lagoon blue lake - Ausangatecocha. Then you'll reach the far side of Ausangate and trek the second pass, Palomani (5,200m). Lastly, trekking through to your own campsite (4,510m).
Day 4: Base Camp to Pachanta
The final day of passes starts with a gentle walk to another lake, Ticllacocha. Then, the last big challenge: Campa pass (5,050m). Treading over the snowy slopes, past the parallel glaciers, the ultimate action to do is descend. Camping for the last time at Pachanta (4,360m), you can then relax in the soothing waters of the hot springs after a satisfying day.
Day 5: Panchata to Tinqui, Drive back to Cusco
Following one last short hike, you'll be back at the Tinqui trailhead (4,237m). Saying goodbye to your crew & the local muleteers, private transport takes us back to Cusco after an incredible journey.
We can help design your whole stay, all treks and tours are fully customisable.
