Itinerary

Day 1: DAY 1 CUSCO – TINQUI – PACCHANTA

Stop At: Peru Andes Top, Calle Ayacucho 173 Oficina 302, Cusco 08002 Peru
Traveler will be picked up from the hotel in private bus and it will take you along the Cusco – Puerto Maldonado road (through the Transoceanic Highway) in the direction of Tinqui (3800m/ 12464 ft).

The first stop will be in Urcos (major bus road junction), there is a colorful market and then will continue the way to Cattca, an agricultural and cattle raising community where you can appreciate the region’s spectacular views. Then finally pass through Ocongate, the capital of the district with the same name, it is half an hour away from the destination

After a 3 hour drive arrive in Tinki, where will have lunch and then the hike is for 3 hours to Pacchanta (4100m/ 13448ft), our campsite. (Total hours hiking – 3 hours)

Day 2: DAY 2 PACCHANTA – QOMERQOCHA – LAGOON – JAMPA PAMPA

Stop At: Ausangate, Cusco 08002 Peru
Second day starts with a slight climb up from the Pacchanta valley to reach the beautiful Qomercocha lagoon where is going to be the lunch. After lunch the hike continue to the first mountain pass, the Abra de Q´ampa (Jampa) at 5080m/ 16400ft, after about 3 hours. Then the descend to the Ticllaqocha Lagoons, they are a beautiful group of little turquoise lagoons.Finally the hike continue for 2 more hours until reach Jampa Pampa, where is the campsite (Total hours hiking – 6-7 hours)

Day 3: DAY 3 JAMPA PAMPA – CONDORPASO

Stop At: Ausangate, Cusco 08002 Peru
After breakfast the hike is a gradual climb towards Yanaqocha or “Black Lagoon”, named after the dark color of its water. Passing over the Yanaqocha mountain pass (5050 m/15564 feet) to discover a surprisingly beautiful valley with an explosion of colored mountains, 3 spectacular lagoons and the presence of llamas and alpacas. Then cross this valley to head towards our next mountain pass (5100m/ 16728ft ). From this point it is another hour of hiking before get to Condorpaso, the next campsite, located very close to the mountain pass with the same name. That will be the challenge for the next day. (Total hours hiking – 6-7 hours)

Day 4: DAY 4 CONDORPASO – LAKE SIBINACOCHA – MOMORANI

Stop At: Ausangate, Cusco 08002 Peru
After breakfast the hike continue with gradually climb up from the valley, this path takes us to the mountain pass Abra del Condor (5200 m/ 17056 ft). After an approx. 2 hour walk to get to the highest point of the trek. From that point the hike will continue for an additional 3 hours, crossing another mountain pass on the way and then descending down into the valley of the Sibinacocha Lake .

We will camp next to the lagoon and very close from its source. From the campsite you will most likely be able to spot the Andean Coots, “Huallatas” or Andean Geese as well as Andean Ducks. (Total hours hiking – 6-7 hours)

Day 5: DAY 5 MOMORANI – CCASCANA

Stop At: Ausangate, Cusco 08002 Peru
On this day the walk along the shore of the Sibinacocha Lagoon for 3 hours until we reach the Yayamari community. Next to the mountain with the same name is an impressive rocky peak overlooking the lagoon (5500 m/ 18040 ft). The walk is until reach the Abra Ccascana at 5000m/ 16400 ft, which will lead us to the lagoon of the same name. In that area is our last camp, from there we may have the chance to spot ¨Huallatas¨ or Andean goose and maybe even flamingos.

Day 6: DAY 6 CCASCANA – PHINAYA – CUSCO

Stop At: Plaza de Armas, Cusco Peru
Right after breakfast the walk is for 3 and a half hours towards Phinaya. This is a small Andean community with a beautiful little church and no vehicles except bikes and horses, where the lunch is. In the afternoon we´ll drive back to Cusco (approximately 6 hours).

  • The Ausangate region is very high, plus you are close to a snow covered massif. Temperatures are cold and can fall well below freezing at night. You should travel well prepared for cold temperatures. Be sure to bring a sleeping bag for temperatures below zero (minus 10 celsius or more).
  • This region is not frequently visited by tourists, therefore tourist infrastructure is limited. This tour makes use of local facilities. Visitors should be aware that things change, or may not go according to plan. This is all part of the adventure and visitors to Peru are encouraged to have an open mind and be open to the differences in the way things are done in another culture.
