About this activity
Within the complex can be seen a division of two well defined vertical sectors: the first structure perfectly worked and assembled seems to be elite and / or ceremonial. And the one that continues a popular neighborhood for its rustic characteristics. There are also buildings of artificial platforms and the buildings are in groups, they have an orderly spatial distribution, these buildings are located around a central courtyard. In its original state this place has probably been beautiful and cozy with a pleasant climate permanently.
Day 1: Cuzco - Maukallaqta - Cuzco
Offering you a complimentary pickup from you Hotel in Cusco, we leave the city of Cusco early in the morning, crossing mountains, Valleys and part of the Andes towards the province of Paruro, in the town of Yaurisque. Here we will stop slightly for a moment to appreciate the town church, which was built using materials from ancient houses of the Area. These stones still have carvings on them from pre-Inca times.
We continue our walk to stop at the entrance to the archaeological site of Maukallaqta. We begin our walk uphill through farmland and spectacular geography which will leave us in wonder.
The architecture of Maukallaqta shows the importance of the place; there is an enclosure decorated with vaulted tripple-jamb niches, clearly a ritual site used by the Inkas. This archeaological site will also impress us with its double-jamb doors, two story constructions, ceremonial fountains and water channels, as well as being surrounded by spectacular geography.
At the peak of the Puma Orco hill, we can see several pumas carved into the limestone, possibly originating from the Eocene – Oligocene period. The mythical caves of the Ayar brothers are located at the base of this hill.
We will visit the places mentioned above, with time to enjoy a snack on our trip. We return to the road where our transport is waiting to take us back to the city of Cusco.
