This is a fascinating experience to get on as we will visiting one of the mountain which one held a massive amount of ice, over millions of years ago. Our adventure of the rainbow mountain trek will start at 4:00 am on an incredible 3 ½ hours driving journey crossing land of wild desert landscapes, snow capped peaks and herds of alpaca. Once we get at the end of bus trip, we will have to get ready for 4 hours of hiking, prior that we need to take our breakfast to get some energy. From Chilca (4,300m / 14,200 ft), a spot of the trailhead of our rainbow mountain tour, will show us the way up it will be uphill hike to reach the famous rainbow Mountains.
We will have to focus on our trail, we are ascending more and more each time on this rainbow trek. Our reward doing such physical effort will be compensated by the superb views of the Andes landscape and wildlife. Among the wildlife that we will see are the Vicuñas considered to be the Andean camel and around this valley. Vicuñas are in the same family as llamas, though are much smaller and they have the most expensive wool in the world.
Once we arrive at the top of what we come to see effect of a rainbow Mountain thats as we know now are the result of melted icebergs more than millenia ago. Of course, you will have your camera ready, and take photos your best shootings and relax yourself on the top majesty views. There is a feeling of this mountains been painted due its prominent red colour also you will get superb views of the valleys and Ausangate Glacier Peak right in front of you.
One of the tallest mountains in the Cusco region, Ausangate (just under 21,000 ft) which is part of the Cordillera Vilcanota Range. We will carry on with our rainbow mountain tour, taking view of this magnificent, colorful mountain meanwhile our staff take care of us with some hot drinks. We will discuss how this mountains became striated in the rainbows of colors you are seeing. After taking a few superb pictures (you might get few condors around by) we will begin our descent with a 2 hour downhill mountain hike.
On our mountain tour. will descend to a special spot, where will be meeting up with our chef who has nicely prepared a delicious hot lunch. Finished our lunch time, the Rainbow tour takes us to visit some of the local family’s houses who still speaking Quechua, the language of the Incas. This communities keep living in a traditional way by honouring the mountain spirits and sun.
Finishing our rainbow mountain tour, we will start returning back to Chillca village to catch our private transport back to Cusco, arriving around 19:00 hrs approx. , where we will drop you off at your hotel.
