About this activity
Pick up from your hotel around 8:30am to start our tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will visit the colorful market of Pisac, the amazing ruins overlooking Pisac and then continue to Urubamba where you will have a buffet lunch. After lunch you continue to Ollantaytambo to observe and walk amongst the architecture which has been pristinely preserved. Following Ollantaytambo you will continue to the city of Chinchero where you will see how they utilize the flora and fauna to create beautiful dyes for their artisanal textiles. Drop off at Plaza Regocijo around 7:00pm.
PISAC, The village is well known for its market an event which attracts heavy tourist traffic from nearby Cusco. The area is perhaps best known for its Incan ruins, known as Inca PÃsac, which lie atop a hill at the entrance to the valley. The Inca constructed agricultural terraces on the steep hillside, which are still in use today. They created the terraces by hauling richer topsoil by hand from the lower lands.
OLLANTAYTAMBO, during the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti who conquered the region, built the town and a ceremonial center. At the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru it served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui, leader of the Inca resistance. Nowadays it is an important tourist attraction on account of its Inca buildings and as one of the most common starting points for the four-day, three-night hike known as the Inca Trail.
CHINCHERO, the most typical town in the sacred Valley of the Incas, is an inca city which the conquerors wanted to "civilize" and establish their culture, but they were never able to achieve it completely. Its inhabitants live in the almost untouched Inca constructions where their ancestors lived and formed the greatest and most prosperous civilization in America. Its settlers, dressed in multicolored clothes, maintain their Indian race, only speak Quechua and still keep their age-old customs which they refuse to abandon.
