Stop At: Q'enqo, Cusco Peru
Q'enqo was a temple to Pachamama, the goddess of the ground and nature. There's a big which was a statue, but they are not sure which animal: Frog, Condor or Puma. Also you can enter inside a little natural cave where human sacrifices were done and it was so well preserved.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Cusco Moon Temple, Pisac highway, Cusco Peru
The Temple of the Moon is literally on the tip of the hill, away from the noise and movement of Cusco even if it is only an hour's walk away. The temple contains a cave with a ceremonial altar, where the figures of pumas, snakes and condors are carved. Its purpose is to reverence fertility, so its caves were built to let in the light of the sun and the moon on specific days, pointing to specific parts of the altars.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Puka Pukara, Cusco Peru
Puka Pukara means “red fortress” in Quechua, most likely named for the high iron content of the limestone rocks. The site dates to the reign of the 9th Inca ruler Pachacuteq in the mid 1400’s. It’s believed to be a military complex due to its commanding view overlooking the Cusco valley and Tambomachay. Or it might have functioned as an administrative center, or even a resting place for travelers. Again, just like so many other Incan mysteries, no one knows for sure. It’s sort of a jumble of stones here, not very symmetrical, giving rise to the theory that the site was constructed in a hurry. Most interesting is how the Incas built walls over the rocks. If the weather is clear, you’ll have a great view of the valley
