Inca Jungle Trail: The Best Adventure Tour in Cusco
4 days
About this activity
DAY 1: Cusco - Huamanmarca - Pispitayoc (biking, trekking, rafting)
Begin with an early pickup from your hotel, then private bus transfer to Ollantaytambo for breakfast. Continue by bus to the highest point of our journey: the mountain pass Abra Malaga (4,330 m.a.s.l.) we enjoy breathtaking Andean scenery on route. From there we begin the biking tour, a descent of over 2000 m from high mountains to jungle, with a warm and humid climate. We end the biking in Huamanmarca, where we break for lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch we go by bus to Santa Maria, where we split into 2 groups for hiking or optional rafting. We meet for overnight accommodation & dinner in La Choza eco-lodge.
Day 2: Pispitayoc – Cocalmayo – Santa Teresa (trekking)
After breakfast & home grown coffee we begin trekking through the jungle. We follow part of original Inca Trail, surrounded by diverse flora and fauna in an area with one of the richest biodiversity in the world. We break for lunch in Quellomayo, and rest in hammocks before continuing trekking. At 4 pm we arrive at Cocalmayo, where you will have chance to take an (optional) relaxing, warm bath and soothe your aching muscles. After the break we hike to the town of Santa Teresa where we stay for the night in a local hostel. After dinner you'll have free time to explore the town, including local pubs and discos where you can enjoy local nightlife.
Day 3: Santa Teresa – Hidro Electrica - Aguas Calientes (trekking, zip-line)
After a breakfast we split into two groups, one for trekking to the hydroelectric, and one for the optional zip line activity. The trekkers will hike for approx. 3 hrs through the valley to the hydroelectric. The zip liners will be taken to their activity, and driven by bus to the hydroelectric. Here we meet for lunch, then continue walking along the railway enjoying waterfalls, and coca & coffee farms. We arrive in Aguas Calientes at 4pm where we spend our last night in a hostel. In the evening we dine together & have a briefing with the guide about the last day and Machu Picchu. You will also have time to explore the town, or enjoy another visit to the hot springs (additional).
DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO (trekking, tour of Machu Picchu)
We start our final day at 4am to hike through the forest, climbing around 1500 stairs to reach the entrance of Machu Picchu at 6am. Our guide will lead you through the ruins, and you will have plenty of time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. Those who booked the optional hiking to Huayna Picchu or Alternative Mountain (Montana Vieja) must be at their entrance gates at the booked time slot.
At the end of the day you will make your own way down to Aguas Calientes. From here we will go by train to Ollantaytambo then to Cusco city by bus. The adventure ends in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco.
