Stop At: Sacred Valley of the Incas, 0051 Peru

During the morning, you are picked up from your hotel to visit the town of Chinchero, a traditional Cuzco urban centre located at an elevated point with a beautiful view of the valley. The inhabitants of this area preserve the artisan traditions and the inherited knowledge of the Incas and display them in their clothes and customs. In Chinchero there are also archaeological remains and a beautiful seventeenth-century church, one of the first Catholic buildings in Peru. Then, you are transferred to the Living Museum of Yucay, a centre Andean traditions interpretations, where demonstrations of the elaboration of textile work, adobe pottery and silverware are carried out in the same way in which they used to in antiquity; an original recreation of Inca traditions. Also, residents of the museum include llamas, sheep and alpacas, and they can be fed!. Later, have lunch in Ollantaytambo and live a superior Andean gastronomy experience in a restaurant, where the true spirit of the Sacred Valley is transmitted in a cosy atmosphere. Stop At: Hot Springs (Aguas Calientes), Signposted from main square, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu Peru
Breakfast at the hotel. Your visit to Machu Picchu begins with an hour and a half train journey through spectacular Andean landscapes to Aguas Calientes, starting from the Ollanta station. From here, you will make a 25 minute bus tour to Machu Picchu, the 'lost city of the Incas'. It is believed that the archaeological site was built around 1450 by the Inca Pachacútec as his holiday residence. However, a century later, the city was abandoned after the Spanish conquest, saving itself from the destruction that reached other Inca settlements. Instead, the jungle slowly swallowed its stone constructions and hid it, protecting it. During the guided tour, you will learn about the origins of this impressive citadel, presenting its most outstanding monuments such as the main square, the royal rooms, the temple of the three windows, the circular towers, the sacred clock and the cemeteries. At the end of the tour, return to Aguas Calientes to have lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon free.

We recommend you get up early and watch the sunrise over the mountain. It is an unforgettable experience! The best views are both the Huayna Picchu (subject to space availability) and its complex of underground temples, such as the Inti Punku, both more than 300 meters above the citadel itself. Another option to visit is the Inca bridge, a secret military road that controlled access to Machu Picchu. In the afternoon, board the train back to the Ollanta station and, from there, a transportation will take you to your hotel in Cuzco.

The second entrance to Machu Picchu is not included.

The ancient chronicles say that its walls were covered with gold leaf and full of golden representations of nature. Then, visit the Cathedral, the most imposing monument of the Plaza de Armas. Then head towards the Cuzco hills where the fortress of Sacsayhuamán is located, whose imposing walls offer an impressive panoramic view of Cuzco.
