About this activity
Start your day with a breathtaking ride through the mountains between Cusco and Pisac.
Begin with a cultural demonstration at Awanacancha weaving community where you can purchas some fine baby alpaca fabrics.
The magnificent Inca temples you find at your second stop are must-see examples of ancient architecture and engineering. After a in-depth tour with your local guides, take time to stroll through the traditional market. You will have a chance to bargain with the artisans for authentic textiles and other colorful treasures, or sample some of the local treats on offer. Continue on a scenic drive through “the breadbasket of the Incas,” a valley still green with corn producing terraces, and land in Urubama a little after midday, for a scrumptious lunch at one of the local restaurants.
Explore the Inca Palace at Ollantaytambo, an impressive pink granite structure, and pose beside the second largest rock used in Inca construction (weighing in at about 90 tons). Use the remaining hours of sunlight to climb up the great stairs that comprise the Temple of the Sun, an incomplete masterpiece, and feast on local fare in one of the nearby venues. Finish your first day with a magical train ride to Aguas Calientes, a small town at the foot of Machu Pitcchu, where you can bathe in the hot baths, stroll around or sit back and enjoy the soothing natural beauty.
Finish your day in Cusco where you will be driven back to your hotel (street-size allowing) or dropped off near the main plaza.
