About this activity
Day 1: Soraypampa.
We will pick you up from your hotel to go to the starting point of today's walk to the small town of Mollepata, which is located above the Rio Blanco Valley. Following a broad and well-established track, we will go gently to the side of the valley and climb . The views throughout the day are fantastic at the end of the day we will see the snowy peaks of Humantay and Salkantay, which peeked out about us. Our encampment to spend the night today will be in Soraypampa, during the night it can be quite cold, so we recommend warm clothes to go to sleep.
Day 2: Colcapampa
Today's walk will be one of the longest and most difficult, but also the most beautiful. The landscape throughout the day goes from one extreme to the other; from the high covered Puna of Ichu (pasture) to the beautiful vegetation of the cloud forest, we will follow an uphill path and arrive at the Salkantay pass where everything is rock and ice, then descend to a beautiful turquoise lagoon for lunch, after eating and a little relax we will continue downhill on the way we will see a variety of wildlife from the small finches that are scratched by at the highest altitudes. Our camp for tonight is at Colcapampa it is recommended that you put insect repellent to go to sleep.
Day 3: La Playa.
After a delicious breakfast, we will continue with our next destination the town of La Playa, about 12 km away through the Colcapampa Valley. Our route takes us along the Lluskamayo River through an area full of life and that has several coffee and fruit plantations. The landscape in this area is not as impressive as the day before, but the warmth and lush vegetation are a welcome respite from the high mountains we have left behind. Tonight we will stay at the beach town.
Day 4: Machupicchu town.
Today is the final day of the trek before reaching Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) Today's main focus is a visit to the Inca site of Llactapata sitting on the side of the mountain. We will arrive to Llactapata early around noon and we will enjoy the fantastic views of Machu Picchu that we will receive from here. After a visit to Llactapata where we will learn about the Inca people and their culture, we will head back down the mountainside to the Hydroelectric Station from where we will go to Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu town)
Day 5: Machu Picchu
On that last day we will wake up early and we will take the first bus back to Machu Picchu. We will have a guided tour of 2 hours of the site during which you will learn about the Incas and visit all the most important areas of the citadel. After your tour you will have free time to explore the site by yourself and if you have permits to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain. In the afternoon we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo from where we will continue by bus back to Cusco.
