About this activity
Enjoy wifi, unlimited soft drinks, snacks and a complimentary pick up at the Pugu Secondary School Bus Stop. Once you arrive at Karakana for the language experience, you will be greeted with a welcome drink and cool cloth.
You will then meet and learn about the part of Tanzania your host is from while beginning with commonly used Kiswahili phrases and greetings. Delve into a brief history of the origin of Kiswahili and get a chance to read messages on brightly colored “kanga” fabrics. Proverbs used throughout Tanzania will also be shared.
Next you will head to the “market stand” and garden at Karakana where you will learn phrases for buying in Tanzania, as well as names for locally found produce. You will then be treated to a local story or “Hadithi” from one of our hosts who will then help you to write you own message in Kiswahili. You will leave your experience with a journal containing popular Kiswahili phrases.
After the Kiswahili experience is finished, enjoy either a continental or Swahili meal and explore the curated selection of handicrafts from artisans across Tanzania. You are welcome to relax on the outside baraza (lounge area), or to enjoy a day bed or a drink at the tanga stone bar. Your experience will end with a drop off at the Pugu Secondary School Bus Stop, with a postcard connecting you to the community partners your experience supports.
