About this activity
Enjoy wifi, unlimited soft drinks, snacks and a complimentary pick up at the Pugu Secondary School Bus Stop. Once you arrive at Karakana for the beading and crafting experience, you will be greeted with a welcome drink and cool cloth to refresh.
You will then meet your host and be guided on the cultural significance of beading in Tanzania. Next, try out the traditional method of beading, while selecting a pattern of beads to take home. Each pattern created has a cultural meaning and your host will walk you through the meaning behind each pattern.
After beading, your host will take you to a display of upcycled materials (such as kitenge fabric and local leather) and you will explore how these materials are transforming the modern arts scene in Tanzania. You will then get a chance to make your own personalized key chain from the recycled materials.
After the class is finished, enjoy either a continental or Swahili meal and explore the curated selection of handicrafts from artisans across Tanzania. You are welcome to relax on the outside baraza (lounge area), or to enjoy a day bed or a drink at the tanga stone bar. Your experience will end with a drop off at the Pugu Secondary School Bus Stop, with a postcard connecting you to the community partners your experience supports.
