About this activity
Experience the rural way of life in Darjeeling. Meet your hosts Aashna and Utsow at their beautiful farm in 8 mile village. Settle in with a refreshing welcome drink and soak in the beauty of their forest garden.

Make sure to get your walking shoes along as they take you for an hour long walk through their forest garden. You will get introduced to permaculture, their herb spirals, linked key-hole garden beds and their very own five-step composting process where they up-cycle the entire organic waste generated in the village!

Your hosts will introduce you to the concept of Forganic Farming (Foraging and Organic farming). Depending upon the season, you may be able to even forage for the vegetables, herbs that would be used in the meal that would be cooked by them.

You will also have a chance to assist them in the kitchen in making your own momos and stir fried forest greens with local herbs. Feel free to ask them questions about the local methods of cooking and the ingredients used. What follows after this unique experience is an earthy meal that does complete justice to the concept of ‘Farm to Table’. The spread includes some fascinating dishes such as Iskus (known as Chayotee globally, it is a local favourite that is indigenous to the Himalayas), Tongba (ancient drink from the Himalayas made by fermenting ragi millets), Kharsangey Momos (these are soya momos accompanied by a dip), Multigrain Baked Crisps & Hummus (crisps made with a gluten-free combination of rice, ragi and buckwheat flour, accompanied by hummus) and a Forest Custard as one of the desserts to end this amazing culinary experience.

The experience can last for 3-4 hours.

Please note: This is not a professional cooking class. This is an unique opportunity to experience life on a farm and enjoy a meal made with fresh produce with a local family
