About this activity
Make your way to Cullen Bay Marina to board the spacious catamaran for your 45-minute cruise. Glide along the waters of Darwin Harbour as you listen to informative commentary from your onboard guide. Snap photos of the city skyline. Pass by the army base en route to Bicentennial Park (aka The Esplanade), which spans the waterfront close to downtown. See Lameroo Beach, a sheltered beach fringed with tropical forest; historically an important site for Aboriginal Larrakia people, the beach is a popular place to fish, swim and stroll.

Around the bend, catch sight of Stokes Hill Wharf, a great spot for waterfront dining, fishing and watching a variety of boats at work, including cruise ships and barges.

Learn from your guide about the history of World War II in Darwin, a strategic base for Allied forces. Japanese aircraft heavily bombed Darwin in a 1942 air raid, damaging or destroying several military and civilian ships, the air force base and other targets, resulting in widespread destruction and approximately 250 casualties. You also hear how the city was hard hit by a huge cyclone in 1974, which caused extensive damage and years of rebuilding.

After a 45-minute cruise around Darwin Harbour, your boat returns you to Cullen Bay Marina where your tour ends. If you’re ready for lunch, the marina offers plenty of waterfront dining options.

This tour has the potential to be really good. The Darwin Harbour is big and has plenty going on. The tour boat is very well set up and the crew are good and helpful. The tour commentary by the Captain is informative and plentiful. On our cruise which was the first for the dry season the sound system played up and needed adjusting which they did. The cruise takes about 45 mins and sticks to the Darwin side of the harbour only. To improve they could include more over on the other side of the harbour. Darwin harbour is normally very calm water so use the speed the boat has to visit some shipwrecks and view the big docks and warves on the outer side.
