Katherine Gorge Tour

About this activity

Start off your adventure heading south out of Darwin on the Stuart Highway and see the endless outback scrub and World War II air strips. Take a first break at Adelaide River and enjoy a light or cooked country breakfast (not included). Continue your journey to Adelaide River War Cemetery, a memorial of 1940's Darwin air raids. Keep eyes peeled to spot wallabies! You will then travel to the western side of Nitmiluk National Park to the breathtaking Edith Falls, where you will have the chance to get in the waterhole below the falls for a swim (conditions permitting) or if you prefer you can just sit and relax on the grassy banks.

Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the Katherine Gorge Visitors Centre at the park, where you will then follow a 2-hour guided tour and board a scenic cruise all the way through Katherine Gorge. Have your cameras ready as there's a good chance to see freshwater crocodiles on the banks or swimming near your boat. Take a short walk along the side of the gorge to reach a second gorge: the stark, sheer, richly coloured escarpments of the canyon will leave you in awe.

You will then be guided through the outback township of Katherine, the third largest town in Northern Territory. Finish your journey with a stop at Adelaide River for dinner (own expense) where you can choose to try the local delicacy “Barra and chips”.
