Itinerary

Day 1: Dublin - Cork

Stop At: Blarney Castle & Gardens, Monacnapa, Blarney, Cork T23 Y598 Ireland
On arrival in Cork at 09:35, we take our Railtours Ireland coach through Cork City to Blarney Village and historic Blarney Castle – which is over 600 years old and was built by one of Ireland’s Great Chieftians, Cormac McCarthy. Explore the beautiful gardens and you will have time to kiss the famous stone, which is said to bestow the gift of eternal eloquence on those lucky enough to do so. There is also time for shopping and lunch at Blarney Village.

TIP! We recommend that you have lunch there, as this will be the only opportunity during the day to have a substantial meal.

You depart Blarney at 13:30 hrs. Approximately – or as directed by your Host – for Cóbh, via the city centre and a short city tour.
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Cobh Heritage Centre -The Queenstown Story, Cobh P24 CY67 Ireland
On arrival at Cóbh (prenounced: Cove), we will visit St Colman’s Cathedral. We will then proceed down along the sea front passing the former White Star Line offices en route to the beautifully restored Victorian railway station/transatlantic terminal. This is now the Cóbh Heritage Centre, home to the Queenstown Story to which your entrance is included. When Queen Victoria visited Ireland in 1849 she came to Cóbh and the town was renamed Queenstown in her honour –it was renamed Cóbh after Irish independence in 1922. Cóbh was of course the final port of call of the RMS Titanic and this theme is well expounded. The centre also houses much information about the Great Famine and subsequent Irish Emigration.

The Lusitania was torpedoed off the coast of Cork – marking the United States’ entry to the First World War – and the small number of survivors were brought to Cóbh for refuge. Cóbh is also the headquarters of the Irish Navy and you will most likely see some navy ships.

We depart Cóbh at 16.15 (or as directed by your host) for Mallow.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Overnight in your Killarney B&B (Bed & Breakfast). **Hotel upgrades available for €49 pps/night.**

Day 2: The Ring of Kerry

Stop At: Ring of Kerry, Ireland
You will be collected from your accommodation at 09:45 (or as directed by our Killarney representative on Day 1) for your Ring of Kerry tour. There are plenty of stops along the Ring of Kerry for morning tea, lunch and photo stops, etc. Ireland’s highest mountains are located in Kerry, and Carrantuohill – which can be seen en route – is the highest, standing at 1041 metres high.

An essential part of any visit to Ireland, this tour circles the magnificent MacGillycuddy Reeks and runs through its many passes and valleys along the shores of Dingle Bay and Kenmare Bay.

The natural beauty of the Ring of Kerry provides many photo opportunities, as it passes through the many picturesque villages such as Glenbeigh, Waterville and Sneem. We return via Ladies View, the famous Lakes of Killarney and through the Oakwoods of Killarney's magnificent National Park. At the end of the tour you will be returned to your accommodation where, again, the evening is free.
Duration: 8 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast in your Killarney B&B.
Accommodation included: Overnight at your Killarney B&B (Bed & Breakfast). **Hotel upgrades are available at €49 pps/night.**

Day 3: Dingle Peninsula

Stop At: Dingle Peninsula, Ireland
Once again you will be collected at 09:45 for your days’ touring, taking in the lovely vistas of the Dingle Peninsula.

Listen out for Irish speakers, as Dingle is one of Ireland’s Gaeltacht, or Irish speaking regions. (We rarely use the term Gaelic to describe our national language).

The Dingle Peninsula has the most rugged Atlantic coastline in Kerry and is scattered with forts and pre-historic huts such as the Gallarus Oratory. Much of Irish heritage is maintained in this Irish-speaking region including traditional music and art forms. Considered by many to have some of Europe's most spectacular scenery, the peninsula also supports both a rare and unique assortment of flora and fauna. Slea Head is the most westerly point in Europe and standing there, looking towards America, instills a feeling of excitement and empathy with the millions of emigrants who took this route.

There are splendid views around Slea Head, especially of the Blasket Islands and the scattered rocks.
Duration: 7 hours

Day 4: The Cliffs of Moher

Stop At: Cliffs of Moher, Lislorkan North Latitude: 52.9714578 Longitude: -9.4247540, Liscannor Ireland
Between 07.00 and 07:15 you will be collected from your accommodation and transfered by road to Limerick City, where you will join the coach for the Cliffs of Moher & Galway Bay tour.

After a short city tour of Limerick, we head out to Bunratty Castle, where there is plenty of time for our guided tour. There is also a folk park and replica 19th century village and some of the buildings were dismantled at various locations in the region and rebuilt brick by brick at their present location.

There is a lunch stop at O’ Connor’s traditional Irish pub in Doolin, before we arrive at the majestic Cliffs of Moher – among the highest sea cliffs in Western Europe.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Pass By: The Burren House Farm County Clare, Ireland Ireland
From the Cliffs of Moher we take the coast road to Galway, with time for photos along the Burren. This is a national park and the word Burren comes from the Irish Language – it means ‘rocky place’. Today the Burren is noted for its diverse flora with few parallels elsewhere in Ireland, or indeed Europe. As time permits, we will make a short stop here for photographs.

We continue along the coast road to Black Head, passing the quaint coastal villages of Ballyvaughan and Kinvara before joining the main road to Galway, where will arrive shortly after 17:00 – ask you host if there is time to explore the streets around Eyre Square.

I booked this 4 day tour and once I read reviews, I called Railtours directly to ask to have an intown hotel, because some of the B and B's are a little out of town and require walking to get anywhere in town. Apparently if you book thru Viator, you get the B and B's. If you book directly through Railtours, they put you in the nicer hotel which is in the center of town. in addition, I was advised by someone that booked directly that you also get breakfast on board the train included. This is available to all passengers, but you have to pay on board. The B and B we stayed at was very good and Maura was great. She keeps a very clean and well stocked operation. The downside is the walk to town. It wasn't horrible, but once you walk back to the B and B, you think twice about doing it again the same night. If walking isn't a concern, then you're fine. The tours were very good. Knowledgeable guides, and very well organized. People from different tours with different itineraries may travel together, but these guides are on top of it all. They give clear directions and make sure everyone is accounted for. If you only have a limited amount of time, and want to see as much as possible, this is a great way to do it. We didn't have to worry about planning anything, and it was nice to already have your tickets to attractions, and not have to wait in the lines. I was happy with all we got to do in the 4 days we had available.

We had a great time in Ireland during our 4-day tour with the Railtours Ireland. Our tour guide, Brian, is very funny and experienced. We learned a lot about the culture and history of Ireland from him. Although the weather was not that good, it was still a pleasant journey for all of us. Special thanks must also be given to our drivers who took us to our destinations safely and comfortably during poor weather conditions.

Our 4 day trip to the western coast was absolutely beautiful. We had outstanding guides including Brian Duggan, Eion and Jonathan Beaumont who added fun, song and historical perspective to our visit. The only drawback was our B and B accommodation in Killarney. It was definitely inferior to the hotels where other passengers were staying, many who had booked with another carrier. Many people on our bus stayed at The International Hotel in town and they loved their accommodations. Our room should have been for 1 person and was very small. Breakfast was only served one morning. Luckily the tours were wonderful but would hope changes would be made for future travelers.

Do yourself a favor and book this trip! Our only regret was that we weren't able to book a longer tour with Railtours. We had three different guides in the four days and they were all wonderful. So friendly and helpful and also knowledgeable about the history of the area. Would do it again!

A great tour to get you to some beautiful sights. We were blessed with 4 days of perfect weather and clear skies, a rarity in Ireland! The rail part of the tour is only on the first and last days with buses used for the day trips to the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. The tour bases you in Killarney for 3 nights which removes 3-4 hours of rail travel each day if you were to stay in Dublin and do day trips, giving a much more relaxing start time of between 9:30-10am and finish by 5pm for the 2nd and 3rd days and time to explore Killarney. A number of different B and Bs are used - mine was the lovely Drimon House run by Mary who was an amazing host and very welcoming. The room was cosy with an ensuite, electric blanket and television and a separate lounge room where guests could congregate to talk about the day's adventures and watch television. Key point with this tour is to watch the start time on the first day of the tour. 7am is actually the train departure time so you need to be at Heuston Station a good 20min before that! It is actually run by Rail Tours Ireland - The Great Southern and Western Coast tour.
