Browse the artifacts, talk to the museum keeper, and learn the local maritime history including that of the nearby hulks (shipwrecks), which you will see as we pass by, on the boat on our way to Portobello

By boat we circle the headland looking for albatross that nest here, seals, penguins and many other marine animals and birds.
We stay on the vessel the whole time.

Scenery, shops, walk the flat, easy and interesting heritage trail. Stop and read the plaques that will tell you of the history of the area.
Have free time to visit the local shops and see the displays of traditional Maori carvings being made and other local arts.
