This tour began with the on time arrival of Terry and his able intern Nozipho. We decided to visit the Valley of the 1000 Hills in the morning because the weather was perfect and was questionable in the afternoon. After a short drive, which included a brief stop for refreshments, we arrived at the Valley of 1000 Hills. I am sure you can guess how it got it's name. At top of the hill is a traditional Zulu village. While this is very interesting and informative, it is overshadowed by the spectacular view of the valley from this strategic high ground. The Natives provided an excellent example of traditional Zulu dances that were associated with various stories of Zulu life and culture. After that, the guest entered a massive Zulu hut for a short briefing on Zulu life and traditions. The whole experience was very interesting and informative, Be sure to bring you camera! After the entertainment, the dancers posed in their traditional Zulu warrior dress for photos with guests. This portion of the tour took most of the morning. Returning back to town, Terry and Nozipho discussed the history of Durban. Driving through the streets, we visited various sports stadiums, centers of commerce, the harbor area, and the beautiful city hall. We also visited the Indian and local Flea Market. This was an unusual experience. The tour culminated with a visit to the City Aquarium, amusement park, and beach. It was an excellent, full, and interesting day. I highly recommend this tour with THIS company! Terry and Nozipho were great!

This tour was a good way to use the single free day we had in Durban. The Reptile Park was interesting. However, despite having confirmed, we were picked up late and had the impression from our guide that First Zulu the actual tour provider might have forgotten they actually had clients that day, until we called them because they had not yet shown up. The tour guide was very informative in the morning but seemed to run out of info to impart after that. The stop at the Botanical Gardens was more rushed than I would have liked, likely because of the late start.

Our guide was punctual and very friendly. We requested a 10am, which we were grateful could be accommodated. We did not go to the Botanical gardens, the Temple or Mosque but visited Umhlanga instead. The Phezulu village and reptile park were the highlights of the tour. Lunch at UShaka overlooking the ocean was a great venue recommended by our guide. The cost of visiting the Stadium was not included in the price. Our walk through the Muti market and Apartheid museum were interesting but rushed - no opportunity for photos and whisked off to the next venue.

My wife and I did Durban City Tour with 1000 Hills. Our tour guide Thaimi forgive spelling was awesome. We began in Durban and went out to the country for Zulu history performance, couple of scenic stops along the way, reptile sanctuary and concluded with multiple stops within the city botanical gardens, harbour, city center, and aqua marine. There was plenty of opportunities for photos and history lessons throughout. We got back in plenty of time to freshing up and relax, before heading out to dinner.

Sotiri and his staff customized our trip to meet our special interests and once again, our high expectations were far exceeded! I wish it was possible to rate this HIGHER than the excellent 5 star rating!
