Edinburgh City Shore Excursion

About this activity
You will meet your guide at the Port who will be carrying a sign stating "Slainte Scotland - Edinburgh City Shore Excursion." Please note that Edinburgh Ports are tendered and getting off the ship can be problematic. We will wait for you and only ask that you notify us of any possible delays.

We start the tour at the bottom of the Royal Mile where we will give you the opportunity to take photographs of the Scottish Parliament Building and Holyrood Palace. We will also allow you to enter some of the quirky closes on the Mile to get an idea of the city's past. You will then be transported in the vehicle to the middle section of the Mile in time for your tour of the Mary Kings Close.

You will then meet with a costumed guide who will lead you through the Real Mary Kings Close. Tour of Mary Kings Close lasts approximately 1 hour, and the cost of our tour does not include admission here.

You will then be reunited with your tour guide as you embark on a short uphill walk towards Edinburgh Castle, stopping briefly at St Giles Cathedral and the old Parliament buildings and City Chambers on the way.

You will then enter Edinburgh Castle. This section of the tour is self-guided as is the castle's policy. However, there are fantastic tours every 15 minutes which will explain the castle's history and architecture. You will stay here for 1 hour and a half, and the cost of our tour does not include admission. It is advisable to purchase a Historic Environment Scotland Pass as it has skip-the-line access and includes other historic properties you may enjoy on the Scotland section of your trips such as Stirling Castle (from Greenock Port) and Urquhart Castle (from Invergordon Port).

After the castle, you will meet your guide at the pre-designated spot (on the Esplanade, they will point this out before you go in). You will then make your way down the Mile for an hour of free time where you can enjoy some lunch, the gift shops or merely take in the city's unique atmosphere. Your guide will be around at all times for questions and help.

You will then meet back up with the group and make way for the vehicle a short 10-minute walk away on Chamber Street passing Greyfriars Kirk and Greyfriars Bobby on the route. Once on the bus, we will make our way to the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Once we have arrived at the Royal Yacht Britannia, you will enjoy a self-guided (audio guides) visit. The tour does not include admission to the Royal Yacht. On the ship, there is a lovely tearoom where you can enjoy traditional tea and scones. We will stay here for approximately 2 and a half hours. Your guide will be on hand for any questions during this visit while you explore the yacht.

Afterwards, we will return you safely to your cruise ship in plenty of time before the last tender. We always aim to have you back at the port an hour and a half before it departs to make up for any delays.

James conducted the tour with utmost professionalism, yet was friendly and accommodated the needs and wishes of the group. We were able to do much more than we could have ever done on a tour with the ship or on our own. James did an excellent job and is passionate about his job! Highly recommend.
