About this activity
Leave central Edinburgh and travel north through the countryside to the country’s ancient capital of Stirling, a town steeped in history. Gaze out of your window at the town, with it's historic jewel of a castle perched high on a craggy hill overlooking the town, and then stop for photos at the Wallace Monument while learning about William Wallace and his part in the medieval Wars of Independence.

We then take the back roads and drive through Scotland's scenic beauty and further into the Highlands. Glens, forests and rivers aplenty, we'll take you through the heart of this picturesque region before stopping for lunch at one of Scotland’s most famous whisky distilleries.

In the early afternoon, stop for a light lunch at one of Scotland’s most famous whisky distilleries – The Famous Grouse. If you are keen to learn more about whisky and its production, enjoy a tour of the distillery to see how the malts are dried and matured (own expense). After exploring the site, meet back up with any members of the group who opted not to do the tour and sample a small dram of whisky to revive your spirits.

Continue into the heart of Perthshire and stop for a walk at the Hermitage, a popular beauty spot where groves of trees frame the waterfalls and gushing waters of the River Braan. Amble through the woodland to the Hermitage’s spectacular Black Linn Falls, and after resting and taking photos, start your journey back toward Edinburgh.

Enjoy one last stop at the quaint village of Dunkeld, mentioned by Shakespeare in Macbeth, and visit the stunning Dunkeld Cathedral on the banks of the River Tay. Pass the impressive Forth Bridges just outside Edinburgh, and then finish your tour back in the city centre.

Wonderful tour. Beautiful countryside. Whisky tour was worth it. The guide's knowledge was a little questionable.

The tour of the Famous Grouse distillery was great. The sampling room was my favorite! The Black Linn Falls, Dunkeld, Hermitage, Sterling Castle and the William Wallace monument. ALL great visits.

Guide, Yvonne, great. Very enthusiastic. Didn't really see the castle/not enough time in Sterling.

Distillery tour is ok. The main problem I felt is less time at attractions. As soon as we reached at the distillery, the tour started. After the tour we literally rushed to the restaurant to grab something to eat and use restrooms. By the time we were done, it was time to leave. The bus was parked a little far away. So couldn't even take a few photographs from outside. And photography is not allowed inside. But the inside tour was really good. Another time problem was at Wallace Monument. The tour guide had given us 30 mins. It takes about 10 mins to walk to the monument from where the bus was parked. There is a mini bus service, but looking at the frequency, it takes about the same time. When we reached the monument, we found out that there is 10 ticket to go inside which our tour guide never mentioned. There was no point in buying a ticket because there was absolutely no time. So just clicked 3-4 photographs from outside and rushed back because we all needed to use restroom and this was our first halt before continuing our journey. Though there is a lot of history around it, visiting Wallace monument was a flop show. Before we started the tour, we paid for distillery tour at the center. Distillery tour is not included in the tour price and we were already aware of it. The lady gave us the receipt but did not give us the tickets and we did not know that we are supposed to have it. When we were in the bus we noticed that everybody has something which looked like a visiting card and then we inquired and we found out that those were actually the tickets. And it was just before we started so we were able to collect it but it would have been good if the tour guide had asked us when he was giving us instructions.
