Day Trip to Estancia Nibepo Aike from El Calafate

You will depart from El Calafate (9 am or 5 pm) to take the road known as the “Camino de las Estancias”. On the way to Nibepo Aike, look for condors, foxes and hares around the Cerro Frias. After crossing river Rico, the steppe landscape suddenly transforms into a mountain landscape. You will arrive at the Estancia which is located inside the Los Glaciares National Park. You will be welcomed and directed to the Quincho, where you will be invited to a coffee, tea, or mate along with homemade pastries.

Then you will begin walking to discover the installations of a typical patagonian estancia which used to work in sheep herding and nowadays works with cattle. A horseback riding tour is available for those who wish for an additional charge. You will continue walking towards the southern part of Lake Argentino, discovering the wonderful eroded terrain as well as native forests.

After the walk, the tour will go to a sheep shearing shelter where you will learn about this job and its tradition. Afterwards, continue on to see rural activities depending on the day, like herding the sheep into the pen with dogs. Finally, head back to the Quincho, where a delicious lunch or dinner of barbecue lamb with salad will be served. The tour will conclude with drop-off at your hotel in El Calafate.
