About this activity
Day 1 - Meet your guide in Fairbanks and begin your guided, narrated journey north. Travel will be by passenger van keeping the group small. Over the next two days your guide will provide narration both while in motion and at the various stops along the way giving you a chance to get out and see Alaska's Arctic close up.
Visit the Arctic Circle Trading Post situated in the rural community of Joy, Alaska and learn about early homesteading in Alaska. Soon after begin the journey on the Dalton Highway made famous during the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
Experience the mighty Yukon River. Marvel at the majestic beauty of the northland's most famous waterway and learn of the river's storied past. Cross the Arctic Circle in ceremonious fashion and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. Overnight at rustic Coldfoot Camp nestled in the Brooks Mountain Range.
Day 2 - Continue your ground tour north making your visit stop at the only, year round lived in community on the Dalton Highway the historic community of Wiseman. Learn of their historical past and present day lifestyle during a walking stroll thru the community. Continue north climbing through the majestic Brooks, Mountain Range and over the Continental Divide at Atigun Pass. Continue across the Arctic Coastal Plain. Explore up close the amazing arctic tundra of the vast Arctic Coastal Plain and feel the veins of ice just beneath the surface. Overnight at Deadhorse Camp in the service community for the site of North America's largest oil discovery, Prudhoe Bay.
Day 3 - Visit the Prudhoe Bay oil fields and end your journey by dipping your toe in the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean. Your return to Fairbanks will be by a flight of approximately 2 hours. the flight is for transportation not a sightseeing flight.
ACCOMMODATION note - important to know both accommodations are indicative of the industrial heritage of the region and are former or active work crew camps Rooms are simple with 2 single beds in the room and shared bathrooms down the hall.
MEALS are not included but guests have a chance to bring their own snacks or know they can purchase both snacks and meals along the way.
