Stop At: A heartbeat of Jamaica - Discover Falmouth, Cruise ship terminal Jamaica

Upon pickup from your hotel, an expert tour guide will first take the group straight to the Luminous Lagoon. While commuting to the lagoon, your guide will describe the sights along the way. Upon arrival to the lagoon, you'll be served a welcome drink before boarding the boat for a 45-minute tour on the water where you can swim and take pictures if you wish. Once you get back to shore, you'll be able to grab a bite at a local restaurant (additional cost) before getting back in the van to return to your hotel. Just 30 minutes east of Montego Bay, there is a little bay near Falmouth that is unbelievably eye-catching and a must-see with this after dark tour. As you swim into the lagoon, you will be amazed to see how the water literally lights up. This unusual occurrence in a body of water only occurs in four places in the world. This location in Jamaica is the brightest and most illuminating of all the other locations worldwide. Scientists and marine biologists from John Hopkins University have come to study it and now visitors from all over the world travel to Falmouth to see this natural phenomenon.

Our family was unsure about jumping into the lagoon at first but when we did, it was so much fun! Once one of us went in, the rest of us basically joined in, minus the parents who watched and helped take pictures. It's not as much of an experience if you don't jump in though because then you basically spend $50 to ride a boat in the middle of the night to see blue water that is being created by other people. So if you go, be sure to experience the cool blue waters for yourself. It'll make it more worth it. There are NO dangerous or strange creatures! Completely SAFE :-) It's actually shallow and you feel squishy mud below you when you try to stand up and stop dog paddling lol mostly it just felt cool and weird at the same time. But it's totally worth seeing such a beautiful and rare phenomenon. When you pick your arms out of the water, it looks like stars falling off your body due to the microbes!!! SO COOL!!! Don't miss out :-) The people there have cameras to take pictures for you and then offer $25 to air drop all the pictures to you phone, which isn't bad I guess, but just be aware of the cost and to be ready with money if you'd like some copies. We ended up getting the pictures. *We did not try this, but see if they will give you a discount price for only specific pictures rather than a flat cost for all because you may only want your favorites.

The Down to Earth Tour of the Luminous Lagoon was absolutely wonderful! Our driver Leon called the hotel to confirm pick-up, picked us up on time and carried on a lovely conversation for the duration of the ride. We were brought to the restaurant near the dock while we waited for darkness to fall. It was lovely to watch the sunset over the water. Once on the boat our captain and co-pilot were very friendly and provided lots of knowledge on the luminous waters. We were able to jump off the side of the boat and swim in the waters. It looks like magic when the water gets disturbed. It glowed such a lovely bright fluorescent blue. You don't need water shoes since you pretty much just float around anyway. The water was not deep at all. It was a small group and felt very private and magical. I recommend bringing a camping towel and a loose change of clothes to throw on for the drive back.

From the very beginning of the tour, our friendly driver Leon made us feel safe, welcomed, and excited to begin. The moment the sun went down, we were in the water with a very manageable group size. The lagoon itself is unbelievable and is a must for anyone in the area. Awesome experience!
