Stop At: Chefchaouen Medina, Chefchaouen Morocco

Your journey will start in the morning. Our guide will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the charming town of Chefchaouen for a full day in the beautiful fairy tale town.

We will be driving through the picturesque landscape of the Rif Mountains, with its rolling hills dotted with plenty of olive trees.

Nestled in Morocco’s Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen has plenty to offer - from hillside hikes or idle strolls, bathe in mountain streams, or embrace the culinary scene and excellent shopping.

Chefchaouen is one of the prettiest towns in Morocco, an artsy, blue-washed mountain village that feels like stepping into a fairy tale.

Founded in 1471 Chefchaouen served as a Moorish fortress for exiles from Spain. Over the centuries, the city grew and welcomed Jews and Christians. Chefchaouen's powder-blue buildings mirror the cloudless Moroccan sky, but religious rather than stylistic reasons are behind the design choice. Jewish teachings suggest that by dyeing thread with tekhelel (an ancient natural dye) and weaving it into prayer shawls, people would be reminded of God’s power. The memory of this tradition lives on in the regularly repainted blue buildings.

Chefchaouen’s medina is a rich cultural tapestry of Berber tribes, Muslims and Jews, along with descendants of the Moorish exiles from Spain.

The old medina is a delight of Moroccan and Andalusian influence with red-tiled roofs, bright-blue buildings and narrow lanes converging on busy Plaza Uta El Hammam and its restored kasbah. Chefchaouen offers a range of quality accommodation, good food and lots to do. This is a great place to relax, explore and also take a walk to the cool green hills.

Whatever the season, visitors are guaranteed incredible views.

Chefchaouen offers many native handicrafts that are not available elsewhere in Morocco, such as wool garments and woven blankets. The goat cheese native to the area is also popular with visitors.

Ater exploring the charming blue Pearl of Rif Mountains, head on for for locally made lunch in one of the Medina’s charming cafes. Try the town’s signature tagine with a refreshing mint tea at the Plaza Uta El Hammam.

After spending a day in the charming surroundings of Chefchaouen, our driver will take you back to your accommodation in Fes.
