About this activity
Our private day trip to the Middle Atlas Mountains is the ideal one day excursion to escape the noisy atmosphere of Fes to the beautiful, cool and calm atmosphere of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Your Fes to Middle Atlas excursion sets off at 8 am, our professional multilingual driver will pick you up from your hotel/riad and drive you through the abloom pastures of the Saiss Plateau to the small town of Immouzer Kandar, famous for its productive and fruitful highlands that in addition to their high quality vegetables and delicious fruits provides some splendid landscapes to peruse. Immouzer Kandar is located on the foothold of the Middle Atlas Mountains, dotted with many amazing lakes that quench the thirst of over 140000 citizens. Our Fes to Middle Atlas day trip continues to Dayet Aoua, famous for its beautiful lake and the surrounding Forests. You’ll get the chance to experience a horse ride by the lakeshore in Dayet Aoua. From there, we’ll continue our journey along the beautiful scenery of the mountains to one of the cleanest cities in the world, Ifrane, nicknamed “Switzerland of Morocco” for its European-styled buildings and the cool, snowy atmosphere. Ifrane contains beautiful gardens and wonderfully decorated buildings. It is rich with minerals as the heavenly oak forests around it are home to many streams and waterfalls. AL-Akhawayn University in Ifrane is one of its most important facilities, being one of Morocco’s leading universities and one of the world’s best, it definitely adds to the glamour of the city. After having our lunch in Ifrane, we’ll carry on to our final Destination, the former capital of the Amazigh (Berber) communities of the Middle Atlas, the gorgeous city of Azrou, located at 1250 meters above sea level, a thoroughly unhurried and relaxing spot with shaggy mane of woods and high meadows that burst into flowers every spring. The city takes its name Azrou (Great Rock) from the isolated outcrop marking the town’s western boundary. Its most famous landmark is the big Ennour mosque that is beautifully furnished with local cedar. Next on our trip, we’ll visit the enchanting cedar forests, the biggest of their kind in Morocco and inhabited by big communities of the Barbary Macaque monkeys, their only home in Africa as they only live in Asia. You’ll get to feed and interact with the playful monkeys. Our private one day excursion will whet your appetite for more trips to the rural areas of Morocco as they showcase the natural diversity of the Moroccan kingdom that’s as important to this nation’s great reputation as is the cultural diversity. From Azrou, we will return to Fes and as we reach this final destination of our journey, our driver will drop you off at your hotel/riad marking the end of this fabulous Fes to Middle Atlas day trip.
