About this activity
Expect pickup from your hotel around 8:30am – precise timings will be confirmed on booking.

Your first stop is Fethiye's famous Tuesday market, a bustling bazaar that's home to hundreds of stalls. Your guide will help you navigate the maze of vendors selling fabric, shoes, bags, spices, souvenirs, and produce from olive oil to raki, and bargain with the local traders who come from villages all around to sell their wares. You'll have some free time for shopping after the market tour.

Next, it's time to shop for two Turkish favorites: gold jewelry and Turkish delight. You'll visit the biggest gold center in Fethiye, home to some impressive pieces of workmanship from local artisans. From here, head to the Turkish delight factory to sample some classic flavors of this sticky sweet before perhaps buying some to take home.

It's around half an hour's drive to the celebrated ghost town, Kayakoy (entrance fee at own expense). Known as Karmylassos in ancient times, 100 years ago this was a flourishing Greek town called Levissi, home to around 4,000 houses, many chapels and churches, plus schools and a forge.

Then Turkey and Greece fought a war and, in 1923, agreed to exchange populations: Turks abandoned Turkish villages in Greece and returned to the mainland, and Greeks abandoned Greek villages in Turkey to head home. Like other migrants, Levissi's population took only what they could carry by hand, leaving behind this eerie wasteland.

You'll finish at Kayakoy before 4pm, returning to your hotel around 4:30pm.
