You must take time to walk around the statue admiring it from every perspective to truly appreciate the genius of the artist. This unparalleled statue was unveiled in 1504 and became a symbol of the defense of civil liberties embodied by the Florentine Republic.
The Accademia also houses a number of Michelangelo’s unfinished sculptures in addition to works by Botticelli, Paolo Uccello and Andrea del Sarto, to name few.
