Our family of 5 enjoyed this day trip very much. It ended up being a private tour. Our driver, Andrea, picked us up promptly at 9am at our apartment and drove us to Montepulciano. There, we went to an ancient winery that was amazing! We booked this trip separately through Viator Wine Tasting and Tour of the Most Beautiful Cellar in the World. Although it took a few minutes to locate the local winery tour guide, once we did they could not have been more accommodating. We had a wonderful tour of the ancient wine cellar and then had a fantastic wine tasting with delicious bruschetta and meats and cheeses. We did not have time to explore the town of Montepulciano, as we were then on our way to Pienza. However, before leaving Montepulciano, Andrea stopped at a beautiful viewpoint so we could take some pictures of the amazing landscape. Once in Pienza, we had an hour or so to explore and do a little shopping. The town was very beautiful, located on a hilltop with more gorgeous views and a beautiful church as well. Then we were on to our last stop, Montalcino. Once again, Andrea stopped at a perfect spot for pictures on our way out of Pienza. We also had time to explore in Montalcino. They have a great fortress to climb to see more beautiful vews. We also did a quick wine tasting of the delicious local Brunello de Mantalcino wine. Overall, it was a bit of a long day but well worth it to see these 3 beautiful gems in Tuscany. We enjoyed Andrea's commentary along the way.He was very informative about pointing out different sights and telling interesting stories as we drove.
