About this activity
Together you will discover the ambience of a less tourist Florence.

This tour depart from piazza Santa Trinita, at the end of Via de' Tornabuoni. Near the middle of the square is an ancient Roman column known as the Column of Justice due to the sculpture of "Justice" on the top. Several Gothic and Renaissance palaces surround the square; these include Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni, Palazzo Buondelmonti and Palazzo Spini-Ferroni that is the home of the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo and headquarters of the fashion house of that name. Then you will cross Santa Trinita bridge, from there is one of the best view of Ponte Vecchio the most famous bridge of the city.

Once passed the river, you will be in the Oltrarno and you will admire the most beautiful renaissance palaces of Via Maggio, the biggest street of that district. After a nice walk you will arrived in Piazza Santo Spirito, social and geographical heart of the quarter, it is known for its café, restaurant and the church. Brunelleschi built it in 1434 and it is consider his last masterpiece. Inside there is the famous crucifix of a young Michelangelo that you cannot miss once in Florence.

No too far, there is Palazzo Pitti, commissioned by the banker and merchant Luca Pitti in 1457. No sooner was the palace completed, the Medici family bought it and since 1549, it became the official residence of most important family of the town. Between 1865 and 1870, during Florence’s brief tenure as the Italian Capital, it hosted the Italian royal family.

The final stop of this tour will be Ponte Vecchio, a medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewelers and goldsmiths.
