About this activity
On our small group walking tours of Florence, one of our Licensed Expert Guides will lead you on a fascinating guided walking tour through the streets and piazzas of Florence that will trace the history of the city, and in particular the times of the Renaissance through the numerous important monuments that line its route. At the stunning Palazzo Strozzi admire the perfectly preserved courtyard, and then discover off-the-beaten-track the precious Palazzo Davanzati that's an excellent example of a Medieval Palace. Passing by the famous "Porcellino" (little pig) market, our highlights of Florence walking tours arrive at the Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge if Florence dating the 1300's. While admiring breath-taking views of the hills that surround Florence, enjoy a detailed discussion on the history of the bridge, and the Vassari Corridor that dramatically changed "botteghe" (shops) located on the bridge. Then, our guided walking tour of Florence visits the political center of the city in Piazza Della Signoria. With the Uffizi Gallery on one side that used to house the Grand Duke's offices and the Palazzo Vecchio on the other, that was once the seat of Florentine government. Here you'll enjoy anecdotes about previous rulers of Florence including the notorious Medici Family whose fortunes fuelled the Renaissance movement. After a pleasant detour through one of the oldest parts of the city to admire tower houses from the 1300's and to discuss the life of Dante who was born and raised here, you'll emerge into Piazza Duomo to enjoy a magnificent views of the Duomo (Cathedral of Florence) that maintains its unique marble decoration and above all the "Brunelleschi" dome, an architectural miracle and symbol of Florentine Renaissance movement for both its bold design and even more daring realization. After a detailed discussion on the Duomo, you'll enjoy further commentary on the Baptistery with its magnificent "Porta del Paradiso", along with Giotto's bell tower, an excellent example of architecture from the 1300's before completing this guided tour of Florence that will help you orientate yourself to the city of Florence and allow you later to explore the city on your own.
